Didn't look like a DH live, and doesn't look like one in the photo.

The wire looks like it is at a slight angle...strange photo.

If they are using the same software as everyone else, the line (it isn't the wire) cannot possibly be at an angle.

But looks like the placing judge is not all that straight.

Interesting case. I don't see "daylight" between the noses of either horse and the marker line, but it does appear that the top horse is slightly ahead, but by less than the width of the line.

How does the horizontal resolution of the "photo" compare to the width of the marker line? If the marker line is precisely 1 pixel in width, then there may be an accuracy limit involved.

Suppose the procedure is

1) pop up the line and move it left, one pixel at a time, until there is no daylight between the line and one horse's nose.
2) see if there is daylight between the line and the other horse's nose. If yes, the first horse wins; if not, it's a dead heat.

If the margin is less than the line width, I don't know if judges are supposed to eye-ball the photo in the way we're doing it. They might be bound by the daylight rule.

Maybe someone here knows exactly how they do it.

Outside horse didn't look on the line to me in the original.

too pixeled but...Thanks for taking the time to blow that up...if I were a placing judge, I'd still vote DH.

I know it is a line and not the "wire"... it just "looks" like it is off at an angle, an optical illusion or distortion...the resolution is foggy on this one enough to not know for certain who did not win, so when in doubt, it is probably better to be inclusive and make it a dead heat.

Is there an enforced industry standard on "line width"...?

I probably would have too, which is why I put a ? on the thread. It isn't cut and dried though IMO.

I believe that the fact that one horse nose is "white" while the other is "black" adds up to the confusion.
