Churchill Downs and Keeneland Partnership Good or Bad? Affect on K.Y. Downs?

The key phrasing is, "on the border with Tennessee", meaning near the Nashville market. Meaning near Kentucky Downs.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, (even though I must say it's fun to satirize the Churchill suits as Death Star denizens), but these two working so closely on things so anti-Kentucky Downs seems to fit more of a pattern of late.

Whatever the case, the new Keeneland looks a lot more like a death star corporate track than the track they worked so hard for years to be.

To be fair, isn't that exactly how Kentucky Downs' own president described his own track? While we don't need new tracks, hard to blame competitors for wanting to get in on that money.

Now we know the real reason for the outrageous takeout increase slated to begin at the Keeneland Fall meet: A homogeneous, maxed-out, tax-on-horseplayer-winnings that not only puts it in line with what CDI charges but sets the same high-rate table it would charge at the new facilities.

I don't know if the author of that article is right or wrong. It sure sounds like there is plenty we don't know about that is going on. I'm guessing that CD and KEE knew they would be turned down, and they unveiled their plans anyway, perhaps in hopes there'd be public pressure to let them proceed. The terse response by the KHRC indicates that they're are annoyed with KEE and CD doing this, and not just because they'd already been told their plan wouldn't be considered. I don't think too many in the industry outside of KEE and CD care about their plans because not many tongues are wagging. The few I've heard aren't in favor and are wondering what CD and KEE are up to.

In the first line he writes “In the spirit of full disclosure — which, in truth, is what this column is all about” yet he doesn’t disclose that he, Gene McLean is a lobbyist for Churchill Downs. What kind of a disingenuous “dick” doesn’t disclose that he’s a lobbyist for Churchill Downs (or at least was in 2016) in the article where he talks about truth and transparency?
