Race One:

:5: BIG ZIP. Solid wet-track pedigree, e.g., City Zip, Carson City, Elusive Quality. This gelding moves up on “off” track. Rudy Rodriguez does good job with beaten favorites. Half-panel stretch should help. Irad Ortiz, Jr in irons (he’s vying with brother Jose for Spa riding honors). Others: :4:, :3:, :1:

Race Two:

:2: HALCYON. A longshot try. This 3 year-old moves up on a wet track, e.g., Arch, Kris S., etc. Two tries on the grass. Nada. But now she tries the main. Eso! Voila! (Call it what you will). A chance. I repeat: “A chance”at a price. Joel Rosario in the irons for trainer Tom Bush. Others: :7:, :1:, :11:

Race Three:

:6: CARVE. A class-dropper who moves up on wet track. Overmatched in last. Returns to do battle with those whom he can compete. The stretch out helps. Hall of Fame trainer, Steve Asmussen, is the conditioner. Asmussen does very well with horses entered in claimers. Others: :5:, :3:, :1:

Race Four:

:7: SAND SHARK sports a solid “off” pedigree. She may have been overmatched in last: 100k Busanda. Lengthy layoff; yet trainer Todd Pletcher (vying for Spa training honors) does exceedingly well in that category. Johnny V. had 4 winners on yesterday’s card; he's been red-hot. Others: :6:, :2:, :5:

Race Five:

:8: UNBRIDLEDADVENTURE moves up on wet track. Won last over month ago in race taken off the turf. Déjà vu all over again? (Yogi-ism). Solid jock: Manny Franco. Class drop (DRF calls it “Suspicious”). The most capable conditioner, Ray Handal, does very well with claimers. Others: :5:, :6:, :7:

Race Six:

:1a: TRANSFER PRICING. In race that’s now off the turf, this MTO (In the land of races taken off the turf, the MTOs are king (or are they princes). Should draw in. Admittedly, a tough starting post Yet, solid connections: Klaravich Stables, “Mechanicsville Chad,” and Javier C. Others: :2:, :12:, :7:

Race Seven:

:3: WICKED OBSESSION. It’s that red-hot duo of Todd Pletcher and Johnny V (Velazquez may not be vying for the riding honors, but his win-percentage is outstanding). Pletcher does exceedingly well in most racing categories, especially with horses that are entered in MSWs. Others: :9:, :11:, :8:

Race Eight:

:1a: THIRSTFORTHECUP. This Stay Thirsty-bred draws in as an MTO. This filly has hit the tote in every one of her wet-track starts. Jose Ortiz is in the irons for this well-connected (Repole Stables, Todd Pletcher) filly. Yes, this filly’s been on the shelf (Pletcher does well in that category). Others: :4:, :10:, :2:

Race Nine:

:8: KIRBY’S PENNY. Johnny V. again. This time for the top-notch trainer, Wesley Ward (he does particulaly well with sprints). Solid wet-track pedigree. Slight cut-back shouldn’t be factor. Should be out and going when gates unlatch and bell sounds. She has won half lifetime races. Others: :9:, :7:, :6:
Race Ten:

:8: DOWNTOWN MAMA is my upset pick in Grade II Prioress. This Speightstown-bred filly has a solid wet-track lineage. She’s won all three of her pari-mutuel races. Yet, candidly, there’s a class test here. She’s also been away from races. Solid duo: Linda Rice & Jose Ortiz. Others: :6:, :4:, :5:

Race Eleven:

:5: ENGINEERS REPORT. This 2 year-old colt “came in” at the start in his only pari-mutuel race, an MSW, nearly two months ago downstate at Belmont. This Unbridled’s Song-bred should take to the wet track. His morning work-tab is good. Rudy Rodriguez trains; Manny Franco rides. Others: :3:, :7:, :15:

Observation...for what it is worth. Numbers :1: and :3: do not appear to be taking that well to the wet-track conditions. That does not mean they cannot hit the board. As always, best of luck.
