passed away today at the age of 92. Like Ara Parseghian, he was a class act. Some of those Texas - Arkansas games from the 1960s were epic if you followed the SWC. He and Darrell Royal were good friends on the golf course, friendly enemies across the field. Fun days.
Went to the 1976 Texas - Arkansas game (Ivey Suber of UT, Carl Tillman of ark were high school teammates of mine), cool and damp night. Last game for both coaches..., the scoreboard malfunction game. Neither team was very good that year, you wanted to see both go coaches out a winner.
Eta... Broyles had the best coaching tree I know of. Jimmy Johnson, Johnny majors, Fred Akers, Barry Switzer, ken hatfield, chuck Fairbanks, etc etc .
