A founding member of the group of studio musicians that became known as The Wrecking Crew, I think it's too narrow to define him into a single category of music. His virtuoso guitar is on Sinatra records and The Beach Boys to name just two. Some of his songs certainly fit the country category, but I think of him more as a pop singer with some country influences.

Jimmy Webb is one of my favorite song writers and he popularized more of his songs than anyone else I can think I of.

If "I'll Be Me" is still on Netflix, it's worth a watch for anyone who enjoyed his music and want to see a little of his courageous struggle against Alzheimer's toward the end of his life.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm glad his body finally gave out.

RIP, a very talented musician. It wasn't until years later when I fully appreciated his work. Wichita Lineman is a beautiful piece of work. Great song, when you listen to it.

My mom's been gone for over 30 years, but with Glen Campbell's passing, it's time for my mom's favorite tune......Puts a smile on my face and a lump in my throat.

Good evening, Gentlemen. I hope you all are doing well.

This is one of Glen's last recordings. By this time, he had his Alzheimers diagnosis. Still, he performs this amazing song, a touching one.

Today, August 8th, marks a year since my dad lost his long and heartbreaking battle with Alzheimers. When I learned hours ago of Campbell's death, I was more saddened on an already hard day. Yet, I was relieved that, now, like my dad, there's no more struggle, no more fear for this talented man. My dad and Glen Campbell, and all others before us, are in

.... A Better Place.

Love to all of you. <3 Grits

None better

Never be another

Witness quite possibly the greatest guitar break ever recorded.

When Roy Clark and Chet Atkins spontaneously cheer you, along with many others.......you've done something special.

Wichita Lineman was one of my Grandfathers (and mine) favorite songs. His father was in fact a "Wichita Lineman" for the railroad back during the depression. RIP Glen and Pops.

Sad. A gentle voice and easy to listen to.

I read it was Alzheimer's. Some day there will be a cure. I have the feeling they are getting close.

Galveston was my favorite. Glen was also a temporary member of the Beach Boys. I love his music, but he did have a tumultuous life with four marriages and drug use. RIP.

Long expected but still so sad that Campbell has left us. He was just so special and provided such good quality music along the way.
He didn't write Gentle On My Mind or Wichita Lineman but odd that they are maybe the top two songs I can think of and he popularized them both. And I always felt a connection with Rhinestone Cowboy, not sure if he wrote it but I love that one two. Of course so many others but for me those stand above everything else. Such a blazing talent universally recognized throughout the industry.

check out this interview, it might amaze you.

About 6 years ago I'm in a pub near Shannon in Ireland and the band consists of a young female concert violinist from Japan, an older and super guitar playing guy from Dublin, and a 50 something local lady with one sweet voice. The packed on a Sunday night pub crowd was singing along occasionally but without much enthusiasm. Everything changed that night when vocalist started singing "I am a lineman for the county..."!

Six years later and I'm still in awe at how much all those old and young Irish folks loved Glen Campbell's American song released so many years ago!:ThmbUp:

Southern Nights was a big top 40 hit when I just got my driver's license. It was one of those songs I associate with items and events from my past. Nothing better than blasting that AM radio in my $300 1968 Plymouth Satellite. Every time I hear that song I think of my first car.

He also had his own variety show. Big fan. His songs take me back, and along with Neil Diamond, Petula Clark, and Elton John, he is a "no change stations" on my car radio.

There were those, however, who found his immense success difficult to explain. Wilt Chamberlain once opined that his dog could sing better than Glen Campbell. For real.

Alzheimer's cowers me. Straight up scares me to death.

Galveston.

Jimmy Webb wrote many of Glen's hits. He's one of the greats. The only song he wrote specifically for Campbell was Wichita Lineman. He's a remarkable man

02. Wichita Lineman – Glen Campbell, 1969

I always find the songwriters interesting.......anybody who wrote the lyrics to MacArthur Park and Galveston has to be an interesting person.

If you ever get to the point in your life where nothing frustrates you.....try songwriting........and prepare for some real fun
