Ray, does same hold true for highest avg win price & highest exacta payoff?

Thanks. The math is tricky.

How did you factor in p3s that were not hit and payoffs were 2 out of 3? These are more common at tracks with smaller handle. If you included 2 out of 3 as actual payoffs, that would explain the bottom tracks in your list where handle is small. But when 2 out of 3 is the payoff, you frequently have multiple winning tickets in your hand.

Its more about field size, pool size and competitive fields. Field size and competitive fields as factors are obvious. Pool size is a factor because big payoffs are limited when three bombs come in.

10x10x10 = 1,000 combos; 8x8x8 = 512 combos. Payoffs should be almost twice as much when there are 10 horse fields over 8 horse fields. In addition, scratches are a factor. On half-mile tracks, many horses suffer from 8-post syndrome and are scratched-sick. Seems to me that if you are scratched sick from the 8-post, you should be assigned the 8-post in your next race. But I digress.

Jess, I was more interested in the relative track ranking so I ignored errors which could cancel out. The payouts for 2 of 3 happen everywhere so that would lower the overall mean.

You're right about field size, pool size and level of competition. Although it's possible to take down the whole pool at some of the smaller tracks.

Another factor is rebates. Northfield sucks while Northlands is super!!

Because of the freaky big bombs that can occur with the Pic3s, I only used the middle of the payout range (Interquartile Range) I did the same for the Exacta averages below but had to use all WIN payouts (1000+ races), tossing out just a few outliers because the middle range is almost the same at all tracks.

Track Pic3s Win Exacta
ACES $61 $4.87 $17
BigM $86 $5.67 $20
BR $58 $4.95 $15
BTVA $60 $4.41 $14
CALX $79 $5.33 $17
DD $21 $5.31 $14
DTN $91 $6.25 $26
FHLD $41 $4.68 $13
HAW $93 $6.22 $22
HOP $111 $6.08 $22
LEX $62 $6.24 $17
MEA $93 $5.57 $21
MOH $123 $6.26 $24
MR $46 $4.39 $12
MVR $99 $6.10 $25
NFLD $57 $5.20 $15
PCD $52 $5.29 $18

Mohawk has 8 baby races tonight, and 5 tomorrow. I wish you luck.

I'll post Saturday's rolling pic3s when available.
Maybe we can put together some sort of co-op ticket.

What say Seabiscuit?

This Saturday maybe we can do something like this. I only look at each other first choice each race. If any of them same we use less horses. So max is 3 horses and min is only 1 horse if all 3 top choice is Same. You can add your hoses if not enough. I will do a .20 cents roll up pick3 real bet. Of course it won't need much for .20 cents.

But the rebate is based on the rebate provider of the bettor, not the track where the bet is made.

Although here is an interesting fact for players who use either the Meadowlands or Monmouth cards, your rebate is based upon the amount of money the track has with the track you bet. Don't know that other rebate plans do the same.

Here is something else to ponder. I submit that there are many more sub even money favorites today than in years gone by, and I contend it is because of rebates. I mean, do you ever wonder about people making large win bets on horses 1-2 or less? What are they thinking? I believe that they are thinking about their rebate whether they win or lose.

Keep up the good work, Ray!
