How about some props regarding how the Yanks handled the A's? Nice game pitched by old man Brown, eh?

9.5 up, threatening to go double digits on Boston's ass....

Betcha you will find something negative to post about the Yankees....lol

sq764
08-06-2004, 01:16 PM
Actually I was rooting for them.. Them beating the A's helps Boston in the Wild card..

New York's bats were never the problem, their pitching is horrid.. They still gave up 20 runs in 3 games to a very average offense..

Sorry to burst your bubble, but not getting Randy Johnson was it for the yanks. No way they have the pitching to get through to win the world series. I mean what is their rotation anyway? Brown, El Deuqe and pray for rain?

cj
08-06-2004, 01:44 PM
They have the pitching to be 9.5 up in the division.

sq764
08-06-2004, 01:55 PM
They did the previous 3 years too.. How many World Series rings do they have in that period?

cj
08-06-2004, 02:12 PM
Same as Boston. I don't care, I hate the Yankees. Your hatred makes you irrational though.

sq764
08-06-2004, 02:45 PM
All I did was state that their pitching was horrendous.. That's a fact, it's not irrational..

(Maybe they need to pick up Tubby Ponson)

did wonders for the Giants last year...

No team in history has led a division by this many with "horrendous" pitching. There have been better hitting teams than these Yankees for sure that didn't win nearly as many games as they will.

Horrendous? You crack me up...

08-06-2004, 02:52 PM
Of course they are good. But I ind it hard not to add: they won*$*$*$*$*.

sq764
08-06-2004, 03:22 PM
CJ, what would you call their pitching? Good?

They are 20th out of 30 teams in the Majors in pitching...

Pitching and defense win championships, if you have even been watching..

Arizona won with pitching, Florida won with pitching...

cj
08-06-2004, 03:30 PM
Without the top two on the staff for a significant period of time, its acceptable. Brown is back, and with no challenge in the East, Mussina can take his time.

Three in a row for the Os has moved them within 9 of Boston...LOL.

dav4463
08-06-2004, 04:16 PM
The Yankees are a lot like last years Lakers....the best team money can buy ! It doesn't mean they automatically will win the World Series though.

sq764
08-06-2004, 04:33 PM
CJ, maybe the Yankmes should have more long range plans than winning the East or the ALCS... Judging by the past few years, the Boston series seems to be their own World Series..

Hey, if it's negative to say the Yankees don't have the pitching to win the World Series (like the past 3 years), then sorry about your luck PA..

10.5!

PaceAdvantage

Second best record in baseball (by a game)....

Plus, Boston is now 2 games out of the Wildcard spot.....

So much for the Yankees horrible pitching....

cj
08-07-2004, 04:36 AM
And the Angels have tied them Boston as well. Wow, who would think the 3d best team in baseball would be in a dog fight for the wild card?

sq764
08-07-2004, 09:00 AM
You guys have to come up with new material.. Doesn't it get old to see the Yankmes get hyped for the Sox series in October, then fizzle yet again?

it is flattering that the Sox series is their personal World Series.. Too bad MLB doesn't recognize that as the world series like the Yanks do :-)

(Get your excuses ready for this year...)

cj
08-07-2004, 09:44 AM
It just seems odd to me that a team with so many pitching problems is 10.5 games ahead of the 3d best team in baseball! Care to revise your top 5?

By the way, Tampa and Baltimore are closer to Boston than Boston is to the Yankees. Same ****, different year for the Sox.

sq764
08-07-2004, 10:35 AM
Sam shit different year meaning another trip to the ALCS?

Don't embarrass yourself by mentioning the Orioles in the same sentence as the Sox, it's insulting to the sox..

Like I said before, whether you are 110-50 or 84-78, if both teams make the playoffs, they all start 0-0..

You don't seem to understand the playoff or wildcard race, but being an Oriole fan, that's understandable..

Its a closer comparison than comparing the Red Sox and Yankees...check the standings.

And oh yeah, they have some successful playoff appearances, unlike the "sox."

sq764
08-07-2004, 04:43 PM
Actually, it's closer to compare the Orioles with the Mariners or Devil Rays rather than the Sox..

Don't lump them in with playoff teams..

cj
08-07-2004, 05:26 PM
I didn't lump them in with the Yankees, Twins, Rangers or A's.

I'm just happy to see the Rangers mentioned with the Yankees. :D

sq764
08-07-2004, 07:12 PM
I just don't see the Rangers AND A's in there.. Sadly, I think the Rangers will fade down the stretch.. They are just too young.. I would love to see them make it though..

Here's my prediction: (Biased or not, this is what I believe)

AL: Yanks, Sox, Twins, A's
ALCS: Yanks/Sox

NL: Cardinals, Dodgers, Braves, Phillies
NLCS: Cards/Dodgers

Not sure about World Series yet...

sq764
08-07-2004, 07:14 PM
...are the freaking Braves ever going to lose again? Christ!!

Phillies go and sweep the Padres and beat LA last night for 4th in a row.. Not to mention beating up on 2 of the greatest relief pitchers of all time... AND THEY MADE NO GROUND!!

I can't find their record after the All Star break, but it has to be something sick..

sq764
08-07-2004, 10:46 PM
CJ, I hate to burst your bubble, but it appears as though the Sox are gonna be there whether you like it or not.. They have been playing pretty bad the past 2 weeks and are still 1 game behind in the wild card :-)

cj
08-09-2004, 04:44 PM
Watch out for the Os, the hottest team in baseball. Within 7.5 games of the "3d best team in baseball." I guess they don't stink anymore.

They are sure helping the Sox. Anaheim and Boston should duke it out and make it fun watching, though I wouldn't write off Texas just yet.

Hopefully Boston will wise up and stop trotting Wakefield out to the hill. Watching those 6 balls fly over the fence sure brought back memories of last year's ALCS. I actually saw three Tigers arguing in the on-deck circle over who was going to get to bat next! Even the manager was trying to activate himself to get a few swings in. I hear Manny will use Wakefield for his Home Run Derby pitcher next year, with the following instructions:

Just pitch like its a real game!

sq764
08-09-2004, 05:06 PM
Yeah, Wakefield is starting to remind me of Mussina..

cj
08-10-2004, 02:54 AM
Nice game against Tampa. Outstanding performance by the co-Ace against such a quality team.

Also, nice job Manny. Once again showing why no matter what numbers you hang up, you aren't worth it. Suck it up and play through sickness or injury once in your career!

sq764
08-10-2004, 09:16 AM
And Yankees got beat up by the last place team.. What is your point exactly?

sq764
08-10-2004, 09:45 AM
CJ, for loathing the Sox and Yankees, you sure do follow them quite closely...

(I guess since every year the Orioles are mathematically eliminated by June 1, you have a lot of time on your hands :-)

cj
08-10-2004, 10:00 AM
Of course I follow them, they are division rivals. The Yankees can afford to lose to bad teams, Boston cannot.

Where is Manny? Surely you aren't sticking up for this loser? He'd rather be a Yankee anyway.

By the way, the O's are far from eliminated. 7 games have been made up in much shorter time than this season has left. Do I think it will happen? Of course not, but you never know. And regardless of when they are eliminated, those World Series Championships sure are sweet.

sq764
08-10-2004, 10:11 AM
Where did I say I was sticking up for not playing sick? Nomar did the same shit and thankfully Boston got rid of him..

All falls back to the manager like I mentioned. Francona is a pansy and won't force anyone to play.. Most high paid players are babies and they do what they want. Happens on every team every day..

Yes, the World Series Championships that the Sox won are sweet too.. Thanks for reminding me..

cj
08-10-2004, 11:53 AM
Yeah, I'm sure you remember those. Hell, your granparents wouldn't remember those.

sq764
08-10-2004, 11:59 AM
Ahh, so if you don't remember them, they never happened... Gotcha..

Your version of spin does humor me though, keep it coming..

cj
08-10-2004, 12:04 PM
I've never seen a bigger homer in my life, and they aren't even from your home. If you really want to dig back to the 190?s, have a blast.

sq764
08-10-2004, 12:09 PM
You said "those World Series Championships sure are sweet"..

I simply mentioned that Boston has more World Series Championships than Baltimore does.. Sorry if that bothers you.. If you're going to yap about something at least get your facts straight beforehand..

cj
08-10-2004, 12:16 PM
I already knew the facts. Baltimore didn't even have a team when Boston won those 6 team league "World" titles. Its said such a "storied" franchise has to dig so hard for some glory.

In my lifetime, Boston hasn't come close to matching the Os. What do I care what happened before I was born?

sq764
08-10-2004, 12:51 PM
What you care about and what really happened are different altogether..

I don't care about the Yankees, but I recognize that they have won 26 or 27 World Championships..
Most of them were before I was born, but they still happened :-)

cj
08-10-2004, 01:38 PM
If the Yankees had won all those championships a CENTURY ago against a couple other teams, I'd snicker at those too!

sq764
08-10-2004, 02:02 PM
You can snicker all you want, but it's about the bottom line..

Sox - 4 World Championships
O's - 3

cj
08-10-2004, 02:13 PM
That's a bigger reach then the one Buckner made in game 7 :(

sq764
08-10-2004, 02:32 PM
Hey, if you want to argue with facts, knock yourself out..

sq764
08-10-2004, 02:34 PM
...and it was Game 6, not Game 7..

(Then again, facts are not high on your priority list, so let's say it was game 7)

I'm sure you remember it better than I do. I was at Garden State Park listening on the radio. It may as well have been game 7 as it was a foregone conclusion.

sq764
08-10-2004, 03:35 PM
Wow, you remember it better than I do.. I was 13, I have no idea where I was...

I remember exactly where I was in 1980 when the Phillies won the world series.. That is ingrained in my brain..

cj
08-10-2004, 03:53 PM
Same for me in 1983 when the O's destroyed the Phillies.

sq764, Yanks have no pitching, yea right*******
ERA`S
Rivera...1.5
Gordon...1.87
Hernandez...3.13
Quantrill...3.1
Brown...3.6
And the Yanks are 10+ without starting pitchers, imagine when they are healty.
And if you dont remember were you were at 13 I do..joe prunes

sq764
08-10-2004, 04:40 PM
Joe Prunes, did your list cut off? You forgot the rest of the staff (including 4 STARTERS):

Vasquez - 4.12
Lieber - 4.87
Loaiza - 5.01 (And just got booed off the field in his last start :-)
Mussina - 5.30

cj
08-10-2004, 05:23 PM
I think sq likes to keep this thread open just because it bears his name! :D

sq764
08-10-2004, 09:13 PM
Nah, it's moreso cause I like to imagine what you are thinking when you watch the Sox get into the playoffs, then watch the Yanks pitching go down the tubes..

(Probably something like "Damn and Damn")

sq764
08-10-2004, 09:15 PM
And Kevin Brown is looking super tonight!!

joeprunes
08-11-2004, 07:43 AM
SQ, like I said with out starters. The Yanks did it with middle relief and closers sooo figure it out..jp

sq764
08-11-2004, 09:11 AM
You can't win a world series using only middle relief.. It just doesn't happen. They have a weak pitching staff, plain and simple..They have 2.5 decent starters (Vaquez, Hernandez and Brown, when he's healthy).. (Although Brown kind of got rocked last night)

cj
08-11-2004, 10:38 AM
I'm pretty sure Mike Mussina would qualify as a "decent" starter in anyone's book but yours.

PaceAdvantage
08-11-2004, 10:39 AM
SQ, stop nitpicking on every single bad game. The Yanks are 7-3 over their last 10, and they are still 9.5 games in front....

When things actually start to get scary and close for the Yankees, then give me a call...

As far as I'm concerned, the next round of debates shouldn't begin until post-season rolls around, and everyone's record is reset....

cj
08-11-2004, 10:41 AM
sq has to nitpick now, because there is a very good chance none of his many teams will not be around when the records are reset!

sq764
08-11-2004, 10:54 AM
CJ, I'd have to say my chances of having Boston in the playoffs MAY be a little better than the O's, wouldn't you?

PA, when the Yankees actually complete the job again (and win a world series), let me know.. Until then, it just looks like another year of high hopes and disappointment for them..
