View Full Version : The Brooklyn Distance Pedigrees: They're Terrible!

Six of the eight horses in Saturday's 1 1/2-mile Brooklyn Invitational lack any Solid or Professional chef-de-race influences in their Dosage Profile, and one of them, Sunny Ridge, has a Dosage Index above 4.00. Of the two who are not stamina-wing challenged, morning-line second choice Tu Brutus is just barely so, with a DP of 6-3-6-1-0, while 30-1 outsider Behesht is rich in congenital stamina at 4-2-14-3-1.

Could we be headed for another half-minute-plus last quarter in a major 12-furlong dirt stakes at Belmont, like the one Mom's Command delivered in the 1985 CCA Oaks, then still at that distance?

And yet, at least one of them will get the 1 1/2 miles. Because dosage is horse manure.

Thomas, all those running in Saturday's Belmont will get the distance -- some sooner than others.

Since none of them seem to be of the 1 1-2 mile variety we recall of yesteryear, try betting the horse(s) that has/have the very best 1 mile time in any of their prior 9 furlong or more races, if any.

This little 'angle' always worked well for me in marathon races where no horses seem capable of getting the distance. Good luck.

I meant to say Saturday's Brooklyn but typed in Belmont by error.

The best 1 mile time angle works for the Belmont stakes, too, of course.

Behesht and Idolo Porteņo have both already won over 12f multiple times.

Behesht is a half brother to a Grand Prix de Paris winner (12f) who also came 3rd in the BC Turf behind Dangerous Midge. Also, Behesht's 2nd dam ran 2nd in the Arc and 4th in the BC Turf.

Idolo Porteņo won 2 Group 1s at 12f in his native Argentina, including the famed Carlos Pellegrini, taking HOY and Champion Stayer honors in 2014.

Governor Malibu was a decent 4th in the Belmont Stakes last year, despite some serious traffic issues at the top of the stretch.

I still see dosage get mentioned here like it means something and think I've stepped into a time machine.

But isn't all of Behesht's form on grass?

Sometimes I wish I was born and raised in Australia.

Sorry dosage is not horse manure but should not be used for handicapping purposes. It's when handicapping with dosage only that gave it bad name.

Look at the dosage of red cardinal or wings of eagles.

230 is a disgrace. Just that American breeders have just about gotten rid of any stamina influences for the American breed.

It's all ecominics.

For instance would any commercial breeders in North America in their right mind have a mare like selection board. Not a snowballs chace in hell. Yet that mare produced ouija board and ouija board produced Australia.

Nobody denies that dosage, in general, has some correlation with stamina. Obviously Phone Trick threw different horses than Vaguely Nonle.

But it's a weak and frequently inaccurate correlation. Which makes dosage useless.
