Adapt Steve Crist's "ABC" structure to my own style as well as the race.

I start with least liked of the horses that I plan to use, and punch it for the minimum. Then I invest more as I go up in opinion and price.
something like:
A x 3 (best price, or most likely to win)
B x 2 (Should be competitive, but not the best and not the best price)
C x 1 (long shots, or favs i hate, but can't comfortably toss)

Sometimes you are forced to treat a short-price as an 'A+' and bet that twice, so that you don't land on a short price and only make a few bucks for all your work.
You don't want to be forced into hammering chalk for the most part. It's ok when stringing together value, but your whole purpose of playing was a race or two where the public was wrong.


also (as in the pick4 at FL) sometimes, I'll just punch a minimum pk3 or pk4 if I have a couple non-favorites as my top choice, and the surrounding races are chalky short fields. If I hit, I make a few bucks.
