Also they could fill the stake.

We totally don't need contraction.

That's pretty awful. Belmont in May should be prime time for New York racing, and New York is a top circuit.

compared to other places, New York has done great.

putting out full cards is very challenging in the world of large outfit's with super trainers. if allowed the big trainers that have all these horses could actually make a race from just their own stock. some of the big outfits are carrying over 100 horses.

I agree that NY is far better than Santa Anita, for instance. But this is pretty bad.

The other moving part is this. It's going to pour on Saturday and 5 of the 8 races are on the turf. If that happens you might see less than 60 horses race.

the hard facts are that if you bring horses to race in New York you pay more for everything. i am going to go over a few things that chase people away from there.

in order to run a horse you have to pay $1500 for insurance for the year. if you race 1 horse you pay $1500 and if you race 1000 horses for the year you pay the very same $1500. if you are a smaller owner you pay trainers 10% of the purse, if you are a large outfit like Midwest Thoroughbred you only pay 5%.

when you get your horses treated, the larger outfits get big discounts, the smaller guy pays the full freight.

everything else there is almost double than what it is in Florida. example if you need to remove chips from a knee, in New York you pay about $3000 for the surgery, in Florida slightly less than $2000. if you need to turnout a horse on a farm you are getting charged $30 a day in New York, under $20 in Florida.

of course New York does have a higher purse structure, but the races don't go as often as they do in Florida and the added purse money goes away and then some paying your already high day rate to train the horse while you wait for your race to go.

the NYRA racing office is the very best in the land, i can't blame them for a thing, they work hard getting races to go and really deserve a double gold star for the work they do.

also they will not have any problem at all carding races at Saratoga, that is where everyone wants to be at the same time from all over the place.
