View Full Version : A little bias at DMR?

I'm not a big believer in a biased track, and racing has an inherent speed bias, but the evidence from DMR yesterday is:

Sprints
winner position at splits
R1, 5 1/2F: #4 wins 1 1 1 1
R3, 5 1/2F: #2 wins 1 1 1 1
R5, 7F: #8 wins 1 1 1 1
R9, 6F: #5 wins 2 1 1 1
R10, 6F: #7 wins 3 1 1 1

And it looks like everyone went to the lead and angled inside

And several longshots won, so its not just favorites punding the field

Even the routes went early--to early pressers that "closed" from 2d to first.

Comments from better handicapers than me (that would mean an open forum)

God luck today, Cato

Of course, in the sprint races, it was not apparent that the winner in Races 3,5,9 would get the lead...and therein lies the rub

Then you should be able to throw out those that are doomed to go wide (speed outside of other speed horses, for one).

Except for maybe Choctaw Nation, to win it seemed you had to save ground, and a lot of jockeys there don't have that concept, yet.

Ken,

just curious. The median 4 f workout for this day was 49.

By your system that would indicate closers should win.

any comments?

thanks

8-1-04 DM 4f dort workouts= I see 47 horses, horse #25 ran 48.8; actually, 4 horses ran in 48.4, including # 21-#24 of 47. If you divide 47 by 1, you get 23 1/2.
The middle 4f time was 48.4, but you can figurer 48.6 if you like.
On my 1-10 scales, 48.6 is a -1-, 49 is a -3-, 1-3 being faster-than-normal. 49.2-49.8=normal speed. 50.0-50.4 is slower-than-normal. A 50.4 is a -10-.
Full charts show 2 dirt 6f races at under 1:10. one of which was under 1:09; most all dirt races average around 1:36-1:38 for a mile, including the San Diego Hcp.
I say the splits and winning times sho0w a faster-than-normal tracvk by any measure; a wet fast or sloppy track might produce about thye same times.
All that spped even considering the stretch was done in around 13+ for the last 1f!

25 of 48; I will say 49.0 is ok, and faster-than-normal. 50.0 and slower is closers
