What you guys think of this one? He is the Pletcher horse that will show up the most on my tickets. Closed in fast fractions and has the pedigree. I think he can improve and he's gonna go off at like 40-1 or more. Not sure how the one eye thing will effect his ability to navigate in a 20 horses field. hope he dont draw the one, its his left eye thats missing.

Like this horse a lot. He's lightly raced and I believe never raced at 2. They usually don't do well in the derby, however I wouldn't discount him being in the money. Not for the win for me. I have researched his pedigree, dosage numbers, and average winning distances on both male and female sides and he fits my parameters perfectly as the next Belmont winner. Keep and eye on him. Hopefully they run the derby, skip the Preakness, and move on to Belmont well rested.

If I toss the speed figures from the Louisiana Derby then this one has a lot to like as an exotics bomber. I'm having a hard time getting past the various figures however. He would have to improve dramatically to hit the board. Certainly possible but remember Golden Soul had a very solid Brisnet LP figure of 100 in the Louisiana before bombing the tote. Patch put up a decent but not eye catching 94 LP. I recall a thread on here a couple years back noting most Derby winners posted a 95+ LP in recent prep and those also hitting majority of exacta combos.

With Patch drawing the outside post how does everyone think this will effect his trip on Saturday? As noted, with his left eye missing, how well will he be able to navigate from the far outside?

He is gonna take the one eye to the optometrist!

On a serious note, I think it is a great post for him. Just let everything happen in front of him and make one run at 'em all.

Obviously all the speed is inside of him. ;)

This is probably a prep though, for his real run in the Belmont.

I was considering using Patch on the bottom of some of my tickets. The combination of a missing eye, 3 lifetime starts, relatively inexperienced rider and post 20 are not confidence inspiring. Maybe I'll cogitate a little longer before adding him to my annual contribution to the Derby pool.

patch seems like he's up against it. it's obv he can and prolly will improve, it just doesn't seem like he will do it here from post 20.

it also seems like he was on the lower end of pletche's top 5

i really don't like girvin ether

I've been going back and forth on him, but in the end I'm going to go against.

I just think he's neither ready nor in a good spot in the 20 position.
