Good day,

Anyone else think this one is a little over looked considering his resume? Granted the Louisiana horses were the weakest bunch. But considering he comes into the derby 3 wins in 4 lifetime starts and 2 in a row and a big 6 prep win where he ran fast closing fractions are we over looking this one? I dont think he can win the derby and am almost questioning myself as if I too am over looking him because I dont think im gonna have him on many if any tickets.

Thoughts?

I like him enough to use him, Paynter, if for no other reason than he's one of the few who nobody has to make excuses for over his last two races. He's been the consistent sort who'll be going into the Derby after having paired up his last two races regardless of what figures you use (BSF, BRIS, TG, TFUS). Like many, the distance is a big question with him, and he's yet to show that he's fast enough yet. But he seems like the type who's going to run his race to me, and after having paired up his last two, who knows, maybe he'll be one of the few that improve enough to grab a piece. I kind of like that he's being ignored for the most part.

how many times have we seen over the years jockeys and their agents make the wrong choice when having numerous mounts to choose from?
I like that BJ chose mckraken over girvin and gets smitty.

been solid and unspectacular vs. what he's been running against. which doesn't look strong at all imo.

i would have taken him more seriously if ventured outside of the FG to prove that he's legit. and i realize why he didn't...but that only means you have much more to prove in the big show. not really a fan of FG horses, and w hernandez opting to mccracken it only strengthens the case that's the horse is a little light. i really wouldn't have liked him if hernandez stayed either.

he looks like he'll be right behind the fav's in terms of odds, but i won't be using him. i guess he can finish 3rd, but so can 15 other horses.

Girvin currently wearing Z-bar shoes on both front hooves. Z-bar shoes are used on horses for any number of hoof issues, ranging from a problem with the sole, the frog, to an abscess, to a quarter crack

Girvin is storm cat sire line. For the win position, they are 0-59 for the derby.

Girvin is my top pick for "double digit odds" horses in the Derby. His knock is that he has only one speed point and could get shuffled back early. I hope his foot problems are behind him.

Classic Empire is my "single digit odds" horse in the Derby.
