He was a major progressive figure, rare in the ranks of NFL owners. Very tight with President Obama, he was appointed ambassador to Ireland for a time. Of course his brother, Tim, runs Yonkers Raceway & Casino, and his granddaughter is actress Rooney Mara.

RIP, Dan Rooney.
