The hits just keep coming for Indiana racing. This purse increase is a response to recent activity at Indiana Grand. They need a summer option for the KY bred mid level runners. Ellis Park is located in the greater Evansville, IN metro area. This is good news for Indiana on a few fronts.

Ellis Park has an awesome configuration - indeed, it provided the inspiration for the new Gulfstream's configuration - and, unlike Saratoga, Ellis has kept its "Wilson Mile" chute.

I'll just say it. I don't think I now disagree with anything KD is doing.

I firmly believed those purses were too high. I mean $100k for a msw. If it was 70 or 80 you'd get the same field. You could easily shave $100-150k a day off their purses and get the same fields. But the $100-150k could have huge impact elsewhere.

Now they're kind of doing it.

40K purse for KY bred maidens at Ellis suggested in the article. Compared to 31k purse for open maidens and 33k for state bred at IG. Indiana runs 5k to 8k claimers for 10K purse, 12.5k claimers for 15k purse and 25K AOC's for 25K purses. Tips higher purse monies to the 5k claimers it seems.

I will want to compare those numbers to the first condition book for Ellis Park.
