I have a longtime friend who idolized Andy Beyer
when he was in his adolescense. I can see how people
can fall in love with the game of horseracing after reading
some of his classic books. His writing brings out the glamour
of handicapping the ponies. In recent years I have tried
to contact him by leaving several messages with the Washington
Post however he never returned anyone of my calls. My
friend has had near miss encounters with him 2 decades ago
when he was seriously into the game e.g. leaving notes
at his hotel, barely missing his seminar talk in the Los Angeles area.
I know he is regarded sort of as a celebrity in horseracing and
he wants to guard his privacy. Funny that other big wigs in
the field of handicapping I have no problem speaking to.
Just doing this as a favor.
