THE PICKETT FACTOR ended his career - and life - yesterday at the same track it began, Oaklawn Park. He was a nice, solid (if unspectacular) horse: 18 - 7 - 1- 3, $449,450. Aside from three starts at Oaklawn, he spent his career on the Louisiana circuit and always seemed to show up ready to run...often butting heads with his nemesis, Mobile Bay.
Sadly, THE PICKETT FACTOR was injured in Race 5 yesterday, battling for the lead, and was euthanized.
I admired him up close in the paddock a couple of times at Louisiana Downs. RIP, Pickett.
