Democratic Convention experience

I spent just about all day here at the Convention... Outside of course. I'm at the BPL on tremont street now....only about 500 yards away.

Its interesting if nothing else.. Its really starting to heat up.

I was in the "Free Speech Zone" most of the day. Randall Terry was about the biggest loudmouth in there..

There were a few interesting shouting match's....

The place is rigged for an outburst if you ask me. Its surrounded by temporay Fence's, It has Netting all over the top of it so people cannot throw things in or out... Just above it is the Elevated subway (thats clsoed) and they've got RAZOR wire all around that to prevent people from climbing up or down...and on the elevated subway tracks is the UNITED STATES ARMY MP's.

They have no running water.. No porta-potties... and its dingy andf dirty with pot holes and an "alleyway" type feel...

I just cannot see 1000 or more people in there with out a reaction... we'll see

I saw a guy (he actually had the best signage) who was advocating VOTING RIGHTS for every living organism... even SLUGS ... He's quite serious and his speech appears well thought out. And His signage is pretty proffesional..

I just walked up to the library to check my e-mail. I think I'm going to g back down and hang around until 6 or so... then go home and watch it on the tube...

I'll try and come with a few interesting angles or stories this week. I decided to take the week off and come down here everyday and take part.. Onec in a lifetime opportunity. I'll come with a few funny stories/ I hope.. and a few serious one..

f-18's flying overhead.. Helicopters hovering.. its like a Movie.

Oh yeah! I got interviewed by a Slovakian TV station this morning to... That was cool.

I got me constitutional rights violated today.

A police officer stopped me on the street and said..

"Excuse me Sir, I want to inspect your bag..Please place it down and open it"

I said

"I'll cooperate , but I strongly disagree"

He Said

"I do to.. I don't want to be here and this will stop after the Convention leaves..

"yea..You say that..But you and I both know that once you give Govt. Power..They never give it back..

"Oh they will, because they can't afford to have us out here all the time doing this"

"Oh.. So I only get my rights because The Govt Can't afford to take them away?"

I Then opened my bag.. I moved all my belongings around and he said.. "Have a nice day"....and I said "You to"

They had 8 people dressed in 7 foot high Flip Flops made out of Foam... They looked Real , just enourmous.. . They had Holes in the thing to see out of...and it was funny to see them come marching down the street with a dozen other people holding signs.. "John Kerry is a FLIP-FLOP...

Get this (another convention story)

Danny drives a Bus for the MBTA here. He pulled special duty for the convention. Here's his gig.

He picks up the TEXAS delegation at the Airport Hilton. But first..

Even though he has 16 years with the T,, they had to run special Background checks on him for him to qualify..

He reports at 11:00 AM...and picks up his Bus... He drives down to Bunker Hill Community College where the Secret Service give it an Electronic Sweep, and a Bomb Sniffing DOG gives it a once over.. Then a COP gets on.. Armed.. Bullet Proof Vest, Gas Mask, Radio,,, The whole GI JOE Kit... They drive over to the Airport Together where they meet a Secret Service agent in a "secure zone"..... The Delegation comes out and Boards... He drives to the Fleet... He Goes into the "Staging Area" as if he is enetering a Prison... The Delegates get off.. Then they "escort" him to a "sitting" area and he waits... with a BOX Lunch ... Until tonight at 11:00 PM when the convention shuts down...

He gets 13, maybe a 14 hour day for ONE TRIP to and from the Airport...

Sounds like they aren't taking any chances up there. Maybe if President Clinton had done more after the bombing of the WTC the first time around, things would not have had to come this far.

I was watching some of the coverge tonight, by accident. I though I was watching Last Comic Standing, but it turned out to be AL Gore. I thought it was both funny and pathertic that they launched their party with a loser whining about losing in 2000.
This undercores the whole convention to me - the losers convention. hehehe.


Suff.....the Daily Show is having a reporter there every night- try to find him and get interviewed. Yo will be on TV, man. Suggestion. Get a Tee shirt made that says Kerry/Gephart 2000!
(Wash Post today ran a headline about election 2000 over a story about the convention! Ooops!)
