I just noticed while watching XBTV videos for recent workouts....

...Kaluhla worked 3 furlongs in :37 seconds after breaking from the gate.

But the workout necessarily ended way, way before the finish line, there going into the far turn....then the horse eases and gallops some coming into the stretch.

Now it makes me wonder, since all young horses are required to pass the starter, usually with a gate work, IF MAYBE young horses actually might be learning to ease up after a short work, then transferred this "lesson" into behavior in the afternoon while in a race....if so maybe longer gate works are better lessons and make for better wagers...

Also...for morning works, is the starting gate usually kept in the chutes...?
