Had the chance to watch and listen to the famous JFK inaugural speech this morning. This self-described liberal would be run out of town on a razor blade by today's liberals.

Imagine saying that you should ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country? That's crazy talk. Today's liberals think government cannot be too big, so they can do everything for you.

Then there was that right wing line, "we pledge our best efforts to help them help themselves Whoa. No liberal wants that. You help everybody and self-respect be damned. Who is this fascist with his far right ideology?

This aint your father's Democratic Party.

Most understood more about JFK after he died then when he was alive. Many were frightened by his aggressiveness which is exactly how a good leader should be.

not just more conservative, but probably 10 times more. but i understand where the man is coming from, he thinks because the guy was a democrat its right to label him a liberal.

also what is interesting is that once a guy gets voted in or appointed which was the case with Lyndon Johnson, they are something different. LBJ was regarded as pretty liberal once he became president. he brought you medicare and medicaid. those 2 programs along with social security are anything but conservative programs.

JFK was more conservative than most republicans today.

And by far a worst anti-woman president.
Trump talked about it, JFK did it - right in the WH, with his wife and kids at home.

Real pig of a man.
And a junkie.

Keep the records straight, here!

Kennedy labeled HIMSELF as a liberal. Back then, liberals were also Americans who did not hate American values.

A liberal, he said in one speech, “cares about the welfare of the people—their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties,” and under that definition, he said, “I’m proud to say I’m a ‘liberal.’”

LBJ was one of the sickest individuals to hold the office. He used to hold meetings while he was on the toilet -- with the door open. He could not understand what the big deal was with JFK and his extramarital affairs because he had so many more. He openly treated Lady Byrd like a piece of crap.

Skinny dipping in the indoor pool with his bimbos, with SS guarding the door to keep Jackie out.

JFK had his faults when it came to carrying on affairs, but nobody is perfect. He seems to have a bit more discretion than Slick Willy. The real mystery is why he cheated when he had a wife that was as classy as Jackie O. There's no mystery as to why Slick Willy cheated.

JFK did use drugs, related to his war injuries and Addison's. I'm more critical of his failure to disclose that to the public, versus drug use to combat the pain.

On the plus side, he did serve honorably during WW2, though getting a PT boat run over by a cruiser brings into question some navigation skills. He got the country through the Cuban Missile Crisis without nuclear war breaking out, and appears to have had plans to revamp the CIA, stay out of Vietnam, and take on The Fed. Being assassinated, of course, gives his legacy the benefit of the doubt on many issues - we'll of course never know how effective his second term would have been.

Like most people, you can cherry-pick the facts of JFK's life to paint the desired picture. IMHO, he was our last true President not bought and paid for by the Deep State. Time will tell how tight the leash is on Trump.

JFK favored the establishment of retirement based Medicare. I don't know any right wing extremist who favors that.

In his book "A Nation of Immigrants" JFK said. "National origin quotas are indefensible racial preferences." Not exactly the belief of a right wing extremist.

JFK believed that Unions were getting too much power; but he also believed that they were necessary and good for the people they represented. Not something a right wing extremist would agree with.

Kennedy supported Social Security, even arguing for an increase in benefits. What right wing extremist would do that?

JFK lowered the top tax rate from 91% to 65%, and the corporate rate from 52% to 47%. That is a far cry from the rates being proposed by right wing extremists.

JFK supported federal aid to education, and he opposed aid to private schools. Those are not the positions of a right wing extremist.

As for the iconic quote, "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask rather what you can do for your country." Country is not the same as government and part of doing for your country is helping the less fortunate citizens of that country.

A lot of what you post stems from the wrong headed assumption that liberals want something for nothing.

JFK was more conservative than most republicans today.

Nixon was pretty liberal by today's conservative standards.

He opened up trade with China which is why so much U.S. manufacturing moved overseas in the past 25 years -- something the conservative Trump wants to end. Side note: The liberal filmmaker Michael Moore has been pushing to bring jobs back to the U.S. since his famous film about General Motors called "Roger and Me." So what Trump is doing is nothing new.

Nixon expanded Medicare to include coverage to people under the age of 65 with long term disabilities.

Before Nixon, Truman tried to get congress to create a national health insurance fund open to all Americans. That's a pretty socialistic concept for a republican president.

Teddy Roosevelt ran on platform that included national health insurance back in 1912!

Personally, I don't see what is so bad about a national health insurance plan. The way the insurance rules are now are awful for consumers and restrict competition.

However, if companies are allowed to sell health insurance across state lines it won't be long before the health insurance industry will consolidate, and become dominated by a few big players with even less competition and more price fixing.

Its also been noted here how LBJ treated lady Bird like crap, when Nixon in fact treated Pat much worse. I'm by no means jumping ship here, just pointing out another contrast between the two parties today and a half century ago.

I see from your comment on the potential consolidation of the health insurance industry shows your lack of faith in the Americanentrepreneurial spirit. I disagree 100% in that potential end game and EVERYTHING is bad about a national health plan. We don't do socialism here.

You are right about Nixon. The Democrats were furious with Nixon as he pushed the same liberal agenda that the Republicans fought so hard against when LBJ was in office.

The two party system has been the demon against which America has been fighting an uphill battle. The Republ-o-crats have sold Americans on the notion that voting third party is throwing your vote away. '"Hey, if you don't like our candidate, he is the better of two evils."

President Trump may be that shining beacon we have sought for so long. Yes, he won under the Republican banner, but he has made it clear that both parties are in his cross hairs. DRAINING THE SWAMP will also eliminate Republicans.

A popular PC term is 'cautiously optimistic' for those to use to protect their collective asses if things go sour. Nobody can be sure that this will be the greatest presidency ever, but 'cautiously' is just too tepid an adverb to define the sentiment of Americans. Who has a nice meaty adverb someplace between cautiously and totally to echo American sentiments of optimism?

He certainly wasn't saying that lolling around on welfare rolls would help your country!
