I thought a thread separate from a general discussion about the playoffs where people can display their betting choices for the upcoming post-season.would be appropo.A discussion thread about the playoffs will also be available.Bragging rights to be decided at a later date.

In case you've forgotten , here be the schedule.(All times EST)

Wild Card
Saturday , January 7th

Raiders at Texans. 4:35 p.m

Lions at Seahawks. 8:15 p.m.
*******************
Sunday, January 8th

Dolphins at Steelers, 1:05 p.m

Giants at Packers, 4:40 p.m.

I believe this will work best if just your choices and maybe a quick comment on those choices,if you wish to make one, to keep things from getting mixed up .A comments section will be made available in a separate thread for more in-depth discussion.

Raiders (+3 1/2) over Texans.O-Town too good to be bad 2 weeks in a row, Texans can't beat good teams

Seahawks (-7 1/2) over Lions. Stafford has shown enough times he won't fold in crunch time but outdoors in Seattle may be asking too much.

Steelers (-10) over Dolphins. Every wild card weekend has a blowout. This will be it.

Giants (+4 1/2). OK, it's my heart talking BUT the Giants have one of the best defenses and the Packers DB's are so injured, the cheerleaders may have to play.Eli, you have outstanding receivers.Use them.Think Daryle "The Mad Bomber" LaMonica.Quit the dink and dunk.

Giants +4.5. Supposedly going to be bitter cold and Rodgers doesn't have the best record in bitter cold. Going into the game vs Chicago in December, he was 0-2 in regular season games in which the gametime temp was below 10 degrees. The Packers did win that game, albeit being life and death to win 30-27 despite a plus 4 T/O margin. We know Rodgers lost a playoff game in the bitter cold against the Niners a few years ago. But the real key is the Giants pass D has been exceptional, while the Packers secondary is decimated by injuries.

Opposing QB's passer rating vs the Giants:
Wash 74, Philly 73, Detroit 72, Dallas 45, Pittsburgh 98, Cleveland 89, Chicago 82, Cincinnati 74, Philly 64, LA 50, Baltimore 74, Green Bay 65. That's serious pass defense.

Texans (glad I don't have to watch this game)
Seahawks (Detroit has an awful defense, and stafford's hand is clearly injured)
Steelers (I feel sorry for the fins here)
Giants (a must watch game)

Under 36.5 in the Houston-Oakland game. Roof or no roof I hope both teams are going into the game believing their defense can win it if the offense doesn't screw up.

So I'm betting on a conservative brand of football in the best playing conditions this weekend.

I'm not touching that game outside the under. OAK's blindside tackle is now out so you have a rookie QB starting a playoff game with the most important player on the line being 2nd string.

OAK might not score.

since barahona44 wanted a separate thread for discussion, I don't want to debate long in here. Aware of injuries, my best guess is that Oakland's offense will significantly outperform Houston's offense today. More of an 'action' opinion than a money opinion. Green Bay is the stronger of my two wildcard week plays.

Yesterday was form full, home chalk covered.

I'm going under dog today. Miami + 10 1/2 and the Giants +5 1/2.

Don't know if either will win but I think they will cover the spreads.

Week 2

Saturday
Atlanta (-5) over Seattle. Matty Ice has a good playoff game-finally.

Houston (+15) over New England. Texans get enough garbage time points to cover.

Sunday

Green Bay (+4 1/2) The Pack have the hot hand.Cowboys Prescott mature rookie but still a rookie.

Kansas City (-1) I believe KC will be Super Bowl champs.Just don't ask me why.

I have the same feeling. I'm also a 'moderate to severe' Steelers fan.
These type of scenarios (where I think the line is crazy) scare me, when I lack the understanding of why. Is it just as simple as people having a hard time overcoming the "wildcard team" vs the "playoff team" labels?? - If so, I'm on board with the gravy train and Pit. +1.5. If not, it scares me.
Go Steelers!

Neither team is a wildcard team, even though the Steelers played last week. Both are division winners in solid fashion. Chiefs just happened to finished just ahead of Steelers. All the true wildcards lost last week.

They don't always bet 28000 on an nfl football game, but when they do, it's on the GB Packers.

Gotta admire sticking to the plan, I'm pretty sure I would have taken money off the table a while ago.

Atlanta (-5 1/2) over Green Bay. Rodgers a little under the weather and as others have pointed out too many do or die games for the Pack lately.Could be a letdown after that finish against Dallas.

Pittsburgh (+6) over Patriots. Two ways of looking at the Steelers 6 field goals: They're not going to win kicking field goals (true) but they also spent a lot of time in the Chiefs side of the 50 and if they do the same against NE , then maybe a couple of those FG turn unto TD and they can cover if not win outright.

Replay watching, although valuable to the horseplayer, could prove ruinous to the sports bettor, IMO. Whoever watched last week's Atlanta-Seattle game came away with the belief that Atlanta is capable of beating ANYBODY...whereas the truth is that Matt Ryan has been plagued by inconsistency during his entire NFL career. And the Atlanta defense, which hounded Russell Wilson all over the field, has been marred by inconsistency of its own. The Packers appear outmanned on defense...but that argument also applied prior to their last two games, and it didn't exactly prove fruitful. With a resurgent Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are capable of keeping the game close...and the points loom large in this one.

With the current line at Atl. -5.5 (-115), there is reason to wait for the line to move to -6. If not...then I will lay 115 and buy the half a point with Green Bay. Flu symptoms or not...Rodgers has made a believer out of me.

There are money lines available on Bovada for all eight possible Super Bowl matchups. I took the one with the lowest offered payout, New England beats Atlanta +260.

I already have a betting interest in the Atlanta/GB game from a prior futures bet and will hope that pays off and helps set up the NE/ATL matchup.

If so, I should be able to add a money line bet on Atlanta as the Super Bowl underdog to lock in a profit regardless of result.

Atlanta -6 and the Over

New England -6

New England has been the best team in the NFL to bet on, as it went a very profitable 13-3 ATS during the regular season (and now 14-3 ATS if you include the postseason). Looking at only the games that Brady started in, the Patriots were 10-2 ATS during the regular season and 11-2 ATS overall. Betting on Brady is almost never a bad idea, since the Patriots have gone 121-76 (61.4%) against the spread during his career as a starter.
