I was referring to the living Kentucky Derby winners. What happened to Ferdinand should be one thing every horse player or fan should know.

Yeah you are correct. Pensioned means no longer used for breeding.

I always like to know who the oldest living Derby winner is (though it makes me feel old).
Oldest living is an esteemed title to have but a risky one as you are getting
to the end. One of my favorites, Genuine Risk, out lived quite few a Derby
winners and held the title for several years. I think she made it to
31 or 32 years old.

According to the list above, Sea Hero a 3 yo in '93 would make him a foal of 1990. And with the all in one birthday of Jan 1 for all horses( when will they stop that silliness) that would make Sea Hero 27 years old.

Sea Hero is still the oldest Kentucky Derby winner at 27 but due to recent events we lost the oldest Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner with Hansel passing at 29. The new record holders are Silver Charm at 23 and the only Classic winner who has connections to the 1980's is A.P. Indy at 28 years old being foaled in 1989 and winning the Belmont Stakes in 1992.

Barbaro, Charismatic, and Summer Bird were where the consecutive streaks started with 2007-2017 in the Derby, 2000-2017 in the Preakness and 2010-2017 in the Belmont without being interrupted by a passing of a Classic winner.

I would love to see A.P. Indy break the 35 year mark but that is still 7 years off. One of my favorite horses ever. Just an update.
