I remember Dick Mitchell once stated at a seminar on handicapping, what he likes about playing the horses is
locking himself up in the den with his Racing Form and
sort of be in "another world" type thing. Andy Beyer states
its every horseplayers dream to be able to make a living
out of racing. What is the draw? Is it the intellectual
challenge of analyzing zillions of handicapping variables?
Getting sunshine out doors to watch the ponies? The
excitement of a race finish? I've spent years studying the horses
and am in the red. But I would have to admit my dream
is independence from a job. Who the hell wants to
punch a clock every workday and deal with disgruntled
co-workers and a boss? Also there are few jobs out there
where people can tell you they LOVE their job and get
paid for it. Few things in life you LOVE doing and get paid
well for.
