I am curious as to why the DRF does not sell old past performance data at a reduced price to handicappers such as me that use it to develop databases and test our programs.

Also does anyone know if it is all right to share this information or is it copyrighted like CDs?

I didn't know that DRF sold archived files. Do they? Bris and ITS sell them and they get the same price as the current data.

Excellent point ClamD. They could make a bucket if they did.
I don't care if its copyrighted or not; I was given about 100K past
race-data & it's Excellent. Who cares? They're dopes trying
to protect their lame data.

Except that BRIS beat them to it by about 20 years. BRIS still uses a DRF file though so go figure.

One of the things to be aware of going in (I wish I had been) is that the BRIS and ITS data has been coming from 2 different sources for many years now. BRIS from DRF and ITS from Equibase and there ARE some consistent differences in the basic data between the two. The decision whether to use one or the other should be made carefully as data integrity problems can occur when switching back and forth between the two depending on what data the ‘capper is saving and what he is ultimately trying to do with it.

ITS charges 1/2 price after 15-16 days ($0.75) per card. You can make a deal with them if you order lots of back races. It makes more sense to do a yearly subscription and build your files as you go. ITS charges the same as DRF. Contact Doug Manley @ ITS.
