Race One:

:7: Sicilia Mike has two races under his belt in this MSW State-bred company; this 2 year-old finished second both times. Is the third try a charm? This A.P. Indy-bred gelding picks up the services of the very capable Irad Ortiz, Jr. A recent sharp work. Good starting post. Half-panel cutback helps. Others: 9, 2, 3

Race Two:

:5: On Tap picks up the services of Jose Ortiz in this claiming turf route n3L. This gelding’s only effort on the lawn, a 6-panels effort, was nuthin to write home about. Yet, this grey was closing in the stretch. That portends good things for this Tapit (Pulpit)-bred. The 2-furlongs stretch from his only grass try gives this gelding a fighting chance. Trainer Linda Rice is having a solid “Big A” meet. Today’s class drop helps. Others: 2, 6, 11

Race Three:

:8: Can’t StopHistory went off as the 2-1 chalk in his last but failed in his favored role; he finished fourth. This Giant’s Causeway-bred had an excuse in that 5 and ˝ panels effort; he got caught in traffic. This chestnut colt stretches out a half-panel off that effort, that helps! He retains the services of Jose Ortiz, that helps. And he turned a recent bullet work, that helps. Mike Maker is a solid trainer who does very well with beaten favorites. Others 1, 5, 3

Race Four:

:5: Condo Prince has never tried the lawn but has turf pedigree. This El Prado-bred finished second at seven panels on muddy track at Belmont in his last. This colt should get the mile; yet it will take all of Luis Saez’s skills to ration out this colt’s speed to the wire. By the way, Saez is a very good gate-jock who has a knack of putting his horses on the lead; the question here will be stamina. A sold “bullet” indicate readiness. Trainer Rudy Rodriguez does very well with horses that have been on the shelf. Others: 6, 4, 3

Race Five:

:9: Gold for the King is my choice in the 100k Notebook sprint for NY State-breds. This Posse-bred bay gelding has hit the tote in all four of his pari-mutuel tries. First, the most capable Charley Baker trains; he does exceptionally well with horses entered in sprint-route-sprint race sequences. Secondly, this gelding dons blinkers for the first time, something trainer Baker does very well with. Third, two back-to-back “bullet” works. Fourth, this gelding retains the services off one of NYRA’s best, Jose Ortiz. Finally, this gelding should be sitting a perfect closing trip; look for this bay to be “picking them up and laying them down” in the stretch. Others: 10, 5, 6

Race Six:

:2: Family Meeting is my longshot - separate yourself from the others in the Pick Six - try. Make no mistake, although this 3 year-old filly has been away from the races (last seen in the Grade III Rebel at Churchill) for many a moon, she has a solid chance of upsetting in the optional claimer. Frankly, my only major concern is that she appears to want to go longer than this race’s 8 panels on the grass; yet, she has won at this distance. Class-wise, this filly fits nicely. Admittedly, “The King of Philadelphia,” Liston LA’s Kendrick Carmouche is not have a banner “Big A” meet; yet this race could serve as a balm for some past race disappointments. Tom Proctor trains this daughter of Sky Mesa. Others: 7, 5, 8

Race Seven:

:12: Oxford Circus draws outside in this MSW sprint. I believe that should make a big difference for this Holly Bull-bred grey colt. This outside post should provide clearer sailing for this 2 year-old (he’s drawn inside in two of his three efforts). The Panamanian, Luis Saez, is having a solid meet. Saez should have this colt in a perfect stalking position. A sharp workout signals readiness. Trainer Brian Lych admittedly needs to “get off the schneid”; this race should provide the perfect opportunity. Others: 8, 2, 1

Race Eight:

In the Artie Schiller (one of “Mig’s” favorites) Stakes on the lawn at 8 panels, my pick is: :5: Blacktype. This Dunkerque-bred, Monsieur Christophe Clement-trained 5 year-old gelding finished third in his most recent race, the Grade III Knickerbocker. Yet in this gelding’s defense, he was bumped at the start and came on strongly at the end. The yielding surface may also have had an impact on this third-place finish. Prior to that is gelding won 2-straight, including two graded stakes efforts. “The Masterful One,” Jose Ortiz is in the irons. Others: 1, 8, 10

Race Nine:

:8: Chelios has consistently won at this level. He has the services of the most capable reinsman, Manny Franco. This, named for a Hall-of-fame hockey player, 5 year-old gelding should benefit from outside post, He should be coming fastest of all as the field reaches the top of the stretch. Chris Englehart – he does well in nearly all racing categories – is this gelding’s conditioner. A solid recent work signals readiness. Others: 10, 9, 3
