Apparently her show sucks anyway........despite the political rhetoric. I have read two different reviews and she apparently has trouble singing her biggest hits. She no longer has the pipes ........? The political stuff is just the capper to a wonderful evening................

Hey DJofSD, how about a few details...

It was reported on a local radio talk program that the same schtick was attempted. San Diego still being a large Navy city, reacted negatively - boo's, jeers, and at the end of it, about 1/3 of the audience walked out. This happen at Humphry's by the bay.

What I heard on the news was she said Michael Moore was a great American Patriot and the audience should see the movie. They booed her off the stage and the Aladdin Hotel mgt fired her, wouldn't let her back to her room and banned her.
She should've read Laura Ingraham's book "SHUT UP AND SING"

My late Dad used to know a lot of people in the entertainment industry.....he used to report some really "scabby" stories about Ronstadt back in the late 60's early 70's. If they were true, or even partially true....she's a piece of work.

Does anyone have a theory as to why the overwhelming majority of "artistic" people (actors, musicians, writers/journalists) are liberals? With the country as a whole split pretty much 50/50, I've never been able to figure out a logical reason why this particular sub-group is so far left of center.

My own thghts are that creativety is right-brain activity. The right brain is emotional. Dems arguments sound good on an emotional knee-jerk level but can't withstand the scrutiny of logic.
I mean who doesn't want clean air and good things for everyone. But when you analyze it, the dems approach to the argument takes away personal responsibility and solves nothing. Case in point: We've spent almost 6 Trillkion on the war on poverty yet poverty still exists. Money alone is not the answer. Taking my taxes and then put the money in a govt prgm is not the answer. But it sounds good to the right brained types.

I think some of it is politics. They say what they think they need to to get that part or get that record deal. For example if I were to print an article on Barbara Streisand that claimed she was gay . She would run to the nearest lawyer and sue my ass off. But if they really were down with the Gay lifestyle as they claim, why would they be insulted or libeled to be associated as a Gay. If somebody called me a right wing christian, I wouldn't be insulted. It's kind of a do as I say, not as I do thing.

Lefty?

Most left handed males are artistic/right brained/creative.
Are you admitting you aren't?????
I have a left handed husband......I consider him all of the above....however, it's interesting....he is pretty conservative on most issues like you are, however he is quite liberal on certain issues.
Maybe this is a myth? Are left handed people (males in particular) more creative, artistic and right brained than us "righties".

so.cal, well, I have written articles and fiction for publication but don't think i'm particularly right-brained. In fact I took a test once from a psychologist and the results were pretty balanced. I'm creative, I think, but also I blve i'm a logical thinker. I think a lot of these movie stars and writers and singers let the right brain rule them.

Yes I've had a theory on this for a long time. It may seem a little farfetched but here goes. Conservatives for the most part are hard working middle income blue collar folks who seem to strive hard to improve their lot in life and welcome things like tax cuts that make them feel good about not having their hard earned money going into a bunch of liberal rathole giveaway programs. Liberals seem to be either on the very rich end of the scale (i.e. Hollywood and recording artists) or on the poor end (i.e. recipients of government assistance). The actors and recording artists take for granted that rich liberals and middle income conservatives will see their movies and buy their CDs. By adopting the liberal platform, they convince lower income liberals that they are "on their side" when in reality, they just see these folks as another market to peddle their wares. By being conservative, they would turn off the lower income people and possibly lose a big chunk of that market. But by supporting liberal politicians, they send the message that they want to elect people who will redistribute wealth in such a way that would enable lower income folks to spend money on the "entertainment" they provide, not to mention the violence, promiscuity and drugs that are everpresent in their "art". But I believe the tide may turn as more and more conservatives use the boycott as a weapon against the more vile and vicious artists. It worked with France. They are hurting over there with the American boycott of their overpriced wine. It's been over two years since I bought anything from France. American, Australian and Italian wines work for me!

Far out. I'm partial to California wines...keepin' it domestic.

I'm not a wine drinker, but according to many experts our California wines are the best in the world!
However, some of you have a good point about our "artists", they are a bit like the French!
Perhaps it's the wine????

Wait a second. If we are to believe Suff, Sec, and LJB, who say most of the country thinks like THEY do, then why are people booing Ronstadt and walking out of her show?

Why are people defacing her posters at the Las Vegas casino that recently fired her? Shouldn't the people be embracing what she says?

Hmmm...interesting development.

She can really prove she's a piece of work if she starts believing that because less than half the audience walked out on her, 'the majority therefore must be with her'! :p :D

Thats ok Linda. Maybe Kerry will tell you which world leaders told him they hope he wins, and they'll let you continue your tour over there instead. :D

Most people aren't going to walk out of a place they paid good money to be at.....so for a good portion of the audience to leave, that has to tell you SOMETHING!! LOL

One of the early reports I read said some of the audience even threw drinks at the stage. :D

Perhaps PA, you need to listen to more than Fox.

On vacation tomorrow, and I play Sar every day so won't be here till close to the debates, but I read that Halliburton thing and just couldn't resist. Then I read the Ronstadt thing and couldn't beleive the differences between what the media reported without even talking to Ronstadt. It's a pretty good read. Take a peek. enlighten yourself.

Show biz politicking

By MICHAEL COREN -- For the Toronto Sun

There is no need to bother reading Plato or Aristotle when you can listen to the insightful songs of deep thinker Linda Ronstadt or watch the splendid and original movies of that noted political philosopher Whoopi Goldberg. Indeed, I for one have decided to abandon all of my reading on government and history and instead base my beliefs on the lyrics of early AC/DC albums.

Whoopi, of course, lost her enormously lucrative deal with Slim Fast after she made abusive and gynecological comments about President George Bush in front of a live crowd.

Linda Ronstadt was asked to leave a Las Vegas hotel last week and never perform there again after she praised Michael Moore during one of her concerts and urged her captive audience to see his movie.

I am amazed. Seriously. I'm amazed. I thought Linda Ronstadt was dead. Her career certainly gave up the ghost hundreds of years ago. Should get a bit of a kick-start now. Opponents of Bush claim that all this is censorship and that artistic and political freedom has been jeopardized. Not quite.

Some of us remember Vanessa Redgrave. She was a leading light in something called The Workers' Revolutionary Party. The joke went thus: "There are no workers, it's not revolutionary, but it's one hell of a party."

Indeed, the only labour union that the WRP ever influenced was Equity, the much-feared industrial powerhouse association of, yes, actors.

Then we had Marlon Brando -- who had never heard of Slim Fast -- and his actress friend pretending to be a native at the Oscar ceremony. Not to be outdone, Sting dragged a Rain Forest aboriginal around for a while and the poor soul looked as bewildered as a celebrity without a personal chauffeur.

Susan Sarandon and her common-law partner proudly announced that they were, well, common-law partners and that they had a child. They then told us that they voted Democrat, didn't always attend classes at school and would stamp their feet unless they were allowed to stay up late.

It seems that if you've ever recorded a pop song or appeared in a movie you have a perfect right to impose your political or social view on the public. As long as they are liberal political and social views. And imposition is what it is. In Linda Ronstadt's audience, for example, were many hard-working people who had saved up their dollars for an evening out. There was an exchange of trust and money at work.

Those unsuspecting men and women had a right not to be harangued by a millionaire with a guitar. The reason so many of them booed and shouted was not so much that they disagreed with the woman but that they were there to be entertained, not patronized.

One wonders how a Ronstadt, an Affleck, a Robert Downey Jr. or a Sheryl Crow would react if a Republican zealot cornered them on the street and delivered a lecture on why the Democrats were utter hypocrites. It wouldn't happen of course.

Before Bill Clinton's name was even mentioned a bodyguard would no doubt have clobbered the working stiff and told him to know his place.

Not long ago a rather humble actor and director named Mel Gibson dared to make a movie about Jesus Christ. No politics, no intrusive behaviour. Yet before the movie or even the script had been seen he was being victimized from Hollywood to Broadway. There's freedom of speech for you.

Charlton Heston was another who suffered. This time the man was certainly political. Right wing. Goodness me, does the fool not have a publicity agent? Heston happened to be one of the first public figures to march with the civil rights movement and is one of the most thoughtful men in his profession.

Didn't matter. As a Republican he was marginalized.

So much so that the liberal thespians' favourite son, Michael Moore -- another who has apparently never heard of Slim Fast -- exploited the man's Alzheimer's disease in one of the most repugnant interviews ever recorded.

By the way, AC/DC are not political. Far too down-to-earth to be that. But to borrow the immortal words of one of their ballads, "For those about to make total idiots of themselves, we salute you."

Tom
07-24-2004, 05:09 PM
Censorship? Where?
There has been no censorship, in spite of what that idot Elton John (last hit...30+ years ago??) says.
All the liberal idiots are free to say whatever they like against Bush.
But they do not have the right to use other people's money and media for their own forum.
I am allowed to say whatever I want by the constitution, but the thing is, I am smart enough not to when it will hurt me.
Just last week, in our staff meeting, it occurred to me, and rightfully so, that my boss is scumbag a-hole with the brains of a maggot, but I chose, for good reason not to make that announcement.
But do you expect for someone named "Whoopi?" Sounds like a perfect name for a hooker to me.

Look forward to hearing from you around October 31 or so.

If you talk to your gal pal Linda R., you might want to mention that had she kept her mouth shut, she would have been a great candidate for Whoopi's old Slim-Fast job.

Just think, free Slim-Fast samples for both her and "Fat Bastard". Think of all the money they would save not having to buy two airline tickets.

Hope you get a lot of rest on your vacation, it should be a busy fall. The paybacks start November 3rd.:p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

sec, the conservative media is supposed to be partisan. That's why it's the conservative media, so duh to you. BUT, the mainstream so-called objective media is not supposed to be partisan but they tilt way to the left. But you libs are afraid and hate anything and anybody that disagrees with your socialistic thinking.
