Politicians :) I know, too obvious.

Not that I go looking for it, but the smell of any animal manure doesn't make me gag as it may others.Zoos, paddocks, etc. Not an issue for this old nose.

Not sure he if was the first to do this, but one of his ideas and cost cutting measures was selling the horse manure to a local mushroom company or something to the effect. The track stockpiled thirty tons of manure a day...

Horse Manure.

Thoughts?

after a long ride of inhaling whatever it was my overheating geo metro was leaking the pleasant smell of fresh manure mixed with tanbark in the old charles town paddock helped get me hooked on the game.

i remember standing at that paddock beside a young boy (not yet tall enough to see over the rail, but he'd eventually grow into a 6'2" womanizing monster) with turn times penned into his racing form.

i looked over and the kid whispered "hidden energy's vital..... when it's vital" and from that moment on i was hooked!! :)

I had an idea years ago.

I wanted to bottle and sell the smell of horse manure.

Something tells me I'd be buying ALL the bottles

Actually, was watching a replay with Kubinova riding, got me motivated

at my home track (which shall remain nameless so nobody's feelings get hurt :( ) i heard the manure took on a strange color causing local mushroom companies to raise skeptical eyes. :)

I wish money smelled like horse shit, I'd never get rid of it!

I wonder if stable employees are numb to it or if they smell it all day.....

I feel sorry for them if they smell goes away/they get desensitized to it.

DUNG!!

Someone once asked Bess Truman if she couldn't get Harry to stop saying "manure" all the time, and Bess replied, "You don't know how long it took me to get him to use that word to begin with."

I did barn area security for a racing season at Hastings (then Exhibition Park) back in the late 80s. You get used to it, and don't notice it....until you open your laundry hamper....

We actually would have guards come in to cover sick leave, etc that would refuse to come back because of the "aroma"

So, anyway, if you think about it, manure is not really that bad a
word. I mean, it's 'newer', which is good, and a 'ma' in front of it, which is
also good. Ma-newer , right?

Sincerely,

George Costanza

When I was a kid I had a horse, she was a palomino Quarter Horse. My dad would use her manure on all his fruit trees and flower beds. He had a lovely garden and the trees bore tons of very sweet, delicious fruit.

We had a corral that was sectioned off into two areas as the previous house owner had two horses. The other half of the corral was used by my mom to keep her chickens. They were able to go into my horse's side through an open gate and they would pick her manure apart for the few undigested oats. That grossed me out and made it a little bit of a pain to clean up. But, they often produced double-yolk eggs. That mare's manure must have been something special, lol!

The smell never bothered me...

Heading opposite of south.
That smell hit my nose

He says: Son, you sure?
Of course dad,

Well, 90% of it is true.

I did drive up 340, through 3 states( in 5 miles) to CT back in the day.
I did tell dad we're getting close as I smelled the horse poo poo.
