I hope they cut back on weekdays during the winter so they can run 10 on Friday / Saturday.

I hate seeing Wed cut out. I hope they consider 8 races on Wed in return for 10 on weekends.

Or even 7 on Wed for 10 on Sat/Sun.

I didn't mean cut out days, I meant run less races so you can do 10 on the weekends.

I love this move. On a side note, Del Mar changed their pick 6 for the fall to a jackpot style wager with a $2 base. Sweet :bang:

More races and more pick 5's aren't a good thing even with a better take out. The winnings are winding up in the hands of fewer individuals. The game is being increasingly dominated by professional gamblers and we are losing the purity of the game.

Compared to the pre-pick5 days...when the game was dominated by the amateur gamblers, and the purity of the game was retained.

The most interesting thing about the explosion of the pick n bets all over the country is the pricing of the wagering menu. If a track wanted to increase churn, it almost seems like the pricing should be in reverse. Lower WPS, DD, and pick 3 takeouts, with the pick 4, 5, and 6 higher. More money is tied up in these and I know personally speaking if I am alive in a pick anything I wont play a win bet unless I have a horse singled somewhere that is a standout. Some pick 3s have takeouts of 25%, so it seems logical to play the pick 4 at a lower take.

This all being said, I love the pick 5 as a player and the low take, but from a business standpoint the pricing seems out of line.

Agree joe......never understood that when I'm betting a pick 4 it's the worst case for track handle wise as i don't mess with anything such as tri or exactas, my bet is a stagnant 4 race bet with the lowest takeout usually

No pick 4 my momey is flying in everywhere

I agree with the comments. When I am alive in the picks,I seldom bet the other races unless it is a single that is more than 2-1. My feeling about the Jackpot bets is that they will increase track handle and if the takeout is the same as pick four, pick 5,it would be a better bet than the Pick 6 in NY which currently has 25 % takeout on non-carryover days.
I don't know why you need a 10 race card to have a late pick 5. I suppose it would take away from the pick 6,but it would probably do 5 times the handle on non-carryover days. I am not saying, the jackpots are good bets, but if the tracks goal is to increase handle, the jackpot might do that, especially with a low takeout.

Having P4 and P5s spurs people to handicap all the races in the sequence. Many will bet them individually. For those that don't when still alive, how often do they really "stay alive" after a leg or two. I think many people get eliminated and will then also bet the races they've already handicapped.

One of these days i will get around to playing these pick 5's .. its just they do nothing for me... almost hitting a big score being 4/5 in a sequence and getting nothing is bad for my mind set.
