So I'm in my local Walmart waiting in a long line and decide to use my phone to read some posts on PaceAdvantage. I log on to the wifi and go to paceadvantage.com. The home page comes up and then a window pops up with this message from walmart: This site has been restricted as a courtesy for our customers. What does that even mean and what is the rationale of restricting paceadvantage?

The part about 'courtesy for our customers' is corporate BS.

I have had a wifi carrier block access to PA before, and got the message that this was identified as a gambling site. I'd guess some wifi providers use a common database to block sites, and that PA is identified as a gambling site in that database.

Whenever I'm in Wal Mart, my phone doesn't work, I get the "Emergency Calls Only" message.

Cellphones with cameras should be forbidden in Walmart

Gambling sites are blocked by "The Barracuda" and similar devices. Many large companies filter using these devices

Public libraries that didn't have a dedicated section of computers for use by minors have done the same thing to me in the past, with their filters blocking access to PA as a gambling site.

I never have any problems where I shop.

7-11 has no wifi restrictions.

I'm thinking maybe we should start a poll...

a. It's Bush's fault.

b. It's Obama's fault.

c. It's NYRA's fault. (Not sure how this is even be possible. Just know that it is.)

d. It's a rider's fault (pick one)... Alvarado, Castellano, Franco, Ortiz, Ortiz, Rosario, Saez, or Velazquez.

e. It's the CHRB's fault. (They know the takeout's too high and don't appreciate the comments.)

f. Those stewards are at it again. (They meant to DQ a horse and somehow got Paceadvantage blocked from the wifi at Walmart.)

Shopping at Walmart you deserve all the pain you can possibly get. Karma.

I wonder if you could surf for porn from Walmart.

Seriously... Welcome to the Big Brother Age where someone else decides what you should be reading.

Going off topic here but I'd avoid using the public wifi at someplace like wal-mart, hotels, anywhere big enough to be an attractive net for hackers. They can spoof the entity's wifi and the next thing you know, hackers have access to everything on your phone.

Alternately, you could consider that someone giving you something for free might have a business case to limit that access.

This board is privately owned. It has moderators. I suppose you could make a case they are tools of an oppressive regime.

Not a particularly good one. And it would require a degree of ingratitude I don't think you actually possess. But it would be similar to the case for Walmart's oppression of all our rights.

I stopped shopping at Walmart early this year. Strictly a Publix man now.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Stillriledup is going to open a SRUmart where no sites are blocked by the wifi?

Actually, we could blame the U.N. Isn't Obama about to quietly turn over the reigns of U.S. domains to the U.N.?

Target usually blocks off these kinds of sites too.

If you want to use public WiFi and access horse racing, Starbucks or McDonald's are safe bets for open access. They never block anything.

our office uses Barracuda so PaceAdvantage is blocked for my protection because it's "gambling related". You can bring up equibase though which I find amusing.
