It's being widely reported that iconic funnyman and actor Gene Wilder has passed on at the age of 83.

I always got a kick out of his performances. A very unique individual.
It's like he operated on another level.

When I first saw Young Frankenstein I knew it was something special.
It was like a revelation that comedy could be done in a whole new way.
I think it was Wilder's magnum opus and one of Mel Brooks high points as well.

Reading about him, I had forgotten he was married to Gilda Radner.

One of my favorite movies of his was The Producers.

RIP Gene
So sad about Gilda who died in 1989.
Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Stir Crazy are classics I watch at least once a year.

I was reminded by this sad event of an eloquent tribute to Wilder I heard from the director of 'Silver Streak', Arthur Hiller, at a dinner with friends a few years back. While acknowledging his great talent, he really marvelled at the actor's kindness and humility, rare qualities in an often brutal business. I thought of this because Hiller, who passed on a couple of weeks ago at the age of 92, was also possessed of these qualities.

RIP gentlemen, and thanks for the memories.
