Marty,

The best thing to do is search this board and the Thorotech board for help on using ES. Everyone seems to use it differently, but there is plenty of information available. If you have a specific problem/question you could also email Nathan; his customer service is fantastic.

I would also take advantage of hdcper's offer of a phone call. He truly is an expert and helped me get started a few months ago.

I think you have made a good choice with Equisim. As mentioned the program is used differently by individual preference. I learned by reading the posts on the thorotech message board, but early on Nathan spoon fed me on the basics. He is patient and cares enough about his users to listen to their input and then impliment the best ideas into each new relase. This is work in progress and I am having a great time learning it. If I can help in anyway, let me know. But the best ideas are posted on the Thorotech board.

Never having to pay for the DRF again...I print out the datafiles from Bris in color through Equisim for $1. I stopped running the sim and have gone back to handicapping but the extra info you get with their pace ratings and running style points are worth it. The jockey choice in color is helpfull as well as color trainer stats. The main reason I stopped running the sim is that I go to Belmont's clubhouse or picnic area as much as I can as I like to see the horses in the paddock prior to the races and watch them warmup and you can't run the sims at the track without juice to power the laptop. (I did last year for the Breeders Cup as I got to sit in the Turf Club restaurant) It's also tough to run the sim with late scratches at the track.

I have been using CJ's figs with Bris data files from equisim and been doing great lately at Belmont, better than I did trying to run the sim using different single and multiple pacelines. Plus I just downloaded ATR Pro for money management

I'm hoping to learn how to use equisim more when I get to Saratoga this summer and see the guys.

equisim is a cheap way to get the info on horses.
it is very user friendly and gives pace ratings at 3 different stages of the race in the summary screen.
the form view screen gives you the data in the format used in the daily racing form
scratches are easy to apply in the program and so are jockey changes.
there is an extensive database from all north american race tracks for 1993 races included in the purchase price
my advice would be to try the demo for yourself and see what you think
good luck acorn (guy)

hdcper gave me a call yesterday at Nathan's behest and I'm having a wonderful time getting acquainted and beginning to learn how to use this--what appears to be a heck of a piece of software!!

Using it yesterday for DMR & SAR was extremely helpful--despite not having a large database with which to work. I only downloaded 8/1-8/8 for the two tracks and all the info that is there for your digestion was remarkable.

Marty, I hope the program is treating you well and you are learning it quickly. Can't say enough about hdcper's assistance yesterday---just great!!

Nathan will be hearing from this guy today--this software tool is going to make my handicapping work a hell of a lot easier. Several people told me it would--and I already believe it!!

All the best,

CapperLou

Well, I DID purchase the program Monday and downloaded it that evening. The value spot plays that I've already found are just remarkable--to say the least--or maybe it's just beginner's luck--but I tend not to believe that!!

Today I found a value play in the 1st SAR #10 which was the top profile horse (and I'm only working off model with cards since 8/1--CD database not here yet). So I played him to Win & boxed a tri with the favorite & #12 which was top comp horse. The #10 was beaten on the wire by the #3 the favorite & #12 was 3rd so we hit the tri $2----513.00.

I found an overlay in the 9th APX which was top profile #8 Wild Irish Dancer and the second horse down was also a price #9 so I played the #8 to win and boxed 8-9 exacta. Boom--$ 26.00 winner on top horse # 8 and 8-9 exacta 131.20.

It gets better---------Capped off this incredible day with huge hit in 8th DMR. The top profile horse was #7 George Atthe Stick and the #11 & #2 were right under #7. Mullins/Pedrosa(this is my own stuff) is a very strong combo with 2 yr olds & 2 yr old FTS. The #4 Deluxe Edition had good works and I thought I should use it with my play.

I played the #7 to Win----played the 7 over the 2,4,11 in the tri and superfecta and the #4 over the 2,7,11 in the tri and super.
I went to dinner and when I returned-just a short time ago--holy cow!!!! Mullins/Pedrosa #4 won and the top three horses in the profiler came in--so we hit the tri and the super!!!

An incredible beginning with Equisim yesterday and today in particular and I know I've been very lucky today, but cannot say enough good things about the help I've received from hdcper and Nathan. hdcper has given me a tutorial over the phone since Sunday.

Obviously, I'm glad I decided to purchase this program and I hope the racing Gods keep looking down on me (as one of the posters always mentions).

In closing, this is one hell of a piece of handicapping software--there is a ton of info and it makes it a lot easier to "see things" which is what one has to be able to do in order to win some wagers.

Thank you Nathan and hdcper for everything--I appreciate it!!

All the best,

CapperLou

Hdcper: To say you have mentored me well would be a gross understatment. Combining my own handicapping skills with Equisim here is a breakdown of my own plays from 8/15-8/25/04.

Tracks used: APX CRC DEL DMR ELP LAD MNR SAR

Plays Hit% Wagered $Unit Return AvgPay Net ROI%

79 46.84 158.00 2.00 451.50 12.20 293.50 185.76

BEST BETS BELOW!!!!!

20 65.00 40.00 2.00 185.40 14.26 145.40 363.50

It should be noted that the highest priced horse in this series

was 43.60!!

I have never used a piece of software before where I could get a huge number of plays(for me this is a lot) and match up my handicapping ability in all areas and come up with results like this.

This is truly remarkable--for those of you who use Equisim--I used a database which I started for the above tracks from 8/1/04 and in the larger sample they were simply profiler top picks that I selected to use.

With the Best Bet Selections--they were top profiler and simulation picks that I chose to use based on my own handicapping blended into the program.

Hdcper--thank you again--and Nathan; you have created something very unique for those who can utilize it with their own handicapping abilities.

I know these results are unreal--and they will probably head downward % wise over time, but right now we are on fire!!!

All the best,

CapperLou

Thanks......

in the form view go up to the

race form view menu and uncheck "mix in workouts" it takes out some space when printing.....it just lists the workouts at the bottom,,,,,,, but it takes up less space.........

Hey justRalph, you were right on. Nathan was able to help by inserting a new filter,"HIDE WORKOUT" in the pp viewer.
Very nice, this is the kind of support that all of us using computer softwarel need!
Again Thanks, to you and Nathan.........
