I wish I could offer some clever way to stay safe. Just prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

My place is about 1/3 of a mile from the Amite river, and is totally under water right now. This is our Katrina, the water is now as far as 4 miles from the river and has just crested. The flood level is 29' it's at 46' right now. Thank God I have friends that live in areas that are not affected that I can stay with at the moment. Please pray for those that are not as fortunate as me.

Saw some mind boggling numbers on the Louisiana flooding from the Weather Channel.Six TRILLION gallons of rain fell on Louisiana fell in the past few days-enough water to fill 9 million Olympic size pools and supply New Orleans with fresh water for the next 350 years

The last time I saw rain, the MLB season hadn't started and Villanova hadn't won the NCAA.

Just got to my house, we marked it at 31 inches in the house. Of course all the flooring, beds, and couches are all ruined. Kind of odd to see the 2 fridges are on their sides. No power yet. Going to be a long process getting everything back in order, but there are lots more out there who have a lot worse than us. Thank God this is over. Please no more rain for a while.

Politics are creeping into the tragedy. Much was made of Bush being on vacation during Katrina and the lack of a response. Guess where Obama has been?

Our Views: Vacation or not, a hurting Louisiana needs you now, President Obama

The president’s vacation is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday. But he should pack his bags now, and pay a call on communities who need to know that in a national catastrophe, they are not alone.

The president’s presence is already late to this crisis, but it’s better later than never.

Our business sending employees to help out and money and food to Baton Rouge this last week.

A boat dealer here in Houston sent most of his inventory over with another 500 people who took their personal watercraft over to help. It's a lot worse than the media is letting on......

Yes, it is way worse...from the Lafayette area all the way east thru Livingston Parish (just east of Baton Rouge) is a total mess. The Amite River overflowed and devastated that whole area...Denham Springs & Walker are in very bad shape. They are basically the next two towns east of Baton Rouge on I12.
The Mermentau is in danger of overflowing too.
