A man dining with friends at an Indian restaurant in Scotland was paying the tab for all the meals by card, and the restaurant owner told him to enter the amount of the tip in the approval machine himself. The amount didn't go through, and the restaurant owner had to speak to the bank to get it approved.
After approval from the bank, the restaurant owner (apparently still not knowing the total amount of the charge, since the customer still had the approval machine) then discovered that the reason the tab had not been approved initially was that the diner had (inadvertently) entered a total charge amount (for a meal that cost around 100 British pounds, or about $130.00) of 1,006,082.04 pounds, or about $1.3 million. Still more amazing was that the diner apparently had had enough funds in his account for the charge to have gone through.
Unfortunately for the restaurant owner, the diner, upon learning of the error while still at the restaurant, quickly called the bank to get the charge reversed, and then paid a more appropriate amount.
