Hey, Barnie, truth is stranger than fiction. Have you ever seen the old, classic, multi-academy award movie "Network"? Believe it or not, I just saw it for the first time last night and loved the movie. (This is a kind of movie that can easily be viewed multiple times over time.) It truly belongs in the elite class of the really Great Classics. The reason I ask because the movie (made in '76, I believe) was so spot-on about the role of TV generally -- but even more specifically the role of TV news. The primary role of TV news is not to report the truth. The primary role of TV news is to spin the truth and tell most viewers what they want to hear. So...I would have no problem believing that CNN or any other network news would be above spinning the news for the right price. But frankly, I don't think most of these networks need to be paid. They are all too willing to spin to tickle their own ears!
