I'm going to say 20 triple digit beyers might be a record.

I'd guess it isn't a record. Cigar probably ran more off the top of my head. Boom Towner was a cool horse. What about King's Swan? He probably ran a ton too. Remember watching him win the inaugural Maryland Million Sprint.

Affirmed Success had an incredible record and in 40 something lifetime starts he ran triple digit Beyer figs in all but about five of his races.

Boom Towner is a super cool horse. That's a really nice story Grening wrote.

Was this Diane Nelson's big mount for a time?

You made me curious enough to look it up---Cigar ran 19.

Skip Away ran 29 (22 of 110 or more), but I don't know if that is the record.

Not that I would blame people, but I am starting to think everyone has me on ignore. :)

I already said in this thread the Affirmed Success had well over 30.

You think King's Swan might have that many? Gulch? I can't find my Champions book or I'd look a few up.

King's Swan may have been before Beyer figures were private. Same for Gulch.

It's possible with the Swan. I don't know if Gulch ran that many times but possibly close.

Please don't remind me about Gulch! He was a superior mudder, and I needed him just for third in his Travers, and I think that was the only time he ever ran out of the money on an off track.

Thanks for linking Skip Away's lifetime pp's castaway. Appreciate it as he was an old favorite of mine.

Sorry---you did say that, but I was trying to find the exact numbers and couldn't find Affirmed Success PPs. Hard when I'm supposed to be working and also looking up horse racing stats. ;)

Kind of frustrating we can't look up RETIRED race horse PPs. I can look up Hank Aaron or Wilt Chamberlain right away for nothing.

Speaking of Affirmed Success...
I went to the Kentucky Horse Park in 2006 and he was there.
Not in their Hall of Champions or a nice paddock somewhere, but in a small stall in their "Display of Different Horse Breeds" (or something like that) area.
It was depressing to see him there.

I understand he later moved to Old Friends

I am always so happy when I read stories like this.
Just not enough of them. Good on Barry S. for taking care of him.
I like routing for owners like this.

Nobody has mentioned Boom Towner's strange habit:

When they turned for home at the top of the stretch,
Towner assumed the rail was ALL HIS. He would duck over
sharply--if anyone was there they got crunched.
I think he got DQed a few times for this.
My best cash with him was when I bet him in the Defrances
Dash; he placed 2nd to Cherokee Run at 35-1.
The exacta paid good.

Keep going old boy.....

Absolutely love threads about the time period when I first seriously got into this game...what a special time that was, at least for me. I remember Boom Towner well, and always loved to see his name in the PPs as I poured over the DRF the night before...ahhh, my salad days in racing... :jump:

Now I'm just a cynical old coot...

Very happy to read he's still around and doing well.
