DRF has some new symbols, the C and S are easy to understand, can someone explain the numbers for example 3/9. I don`t get their explanation.

Post Position 3 of 9 horses in race.

The "C" is for a track favoring closers. - If the "C" is bold, it was extremely good for off the pace runners.

The "S" is for speed favoring tracks that day. - The bold "S" is for a strong speed bias.

The DRF has changed symbols twice this year.

Good luck !

I'm looking at the DRF I bought yesterday, the first number does not correspond to post position listed in pp's, not in any of them. What am I missing?

Not for track bias, but race -shape bias.

Post Position of each of the past races in the PPS.

Using Saturday's Belmont PPS as an example: #4 Suddenbreakingnews is of course breaking from Post #4 on Saturday. However, in his last race, the KY Derby, he was in Post Position #2 of a full field of 20 that day.

Are the pace shape designations determined by computer algorithm or human input? Can someone please explain how the 9th race at Gulfstream on Apr 2nd was designated a C? If ever a race deserved a neutral rating I would think this would fit the bill.

Do not get caught up in fractional times....99% of this board gets sidetracked on time. The reason it is a C rated race is pace pressure. Like 6 horses up close in lengths to the leader... A pressured pace flow. Kenny Peck has proven this time and again. HORSES up close or on the lead in a C rated race deserve a close look next time they race.

Has anyone tested how frequently the symbols match up with TimeformUS Red/Blue races?

I wonder if they just tried to copy the same method.

Doubtful they match up very often because the DRF ones don't use time at all.

Is the brain trust behind these DRF symbols he has been a pace flow player for 25 years no need to copy off of others. Everyone uses what works for them to me playing horses against the flow has been rewarding to me.

It surely isn't the same thing as TimeformUS. But I highly doubt it is just coincidence it appeared now after 25 years. :)
