Yes, one of the guys that I know runs the RR memorial website. The e-mails are quite moving as people reminisce.

I remember Roosevelt. Went to Rutgers in central Jersey, and one week, I blew off an entire week of school to hit Roosevelt. Drove back and forth, everyday for a week. It was great. Remember it had the payoffs on the tote board, of the odds, etc. It was great! Remembered Carmine, Manzi and Lachance were there! Did you realize that Roosevelt Field nearby, was where Charles Lindberg took off with the Spirit of St. Louis when he flew across the Atlantic.

There was also (at one time) a Polo Field adjoining Roosevelt.
Damn if I can recall the name and I'm too lazy to dig for such trivia.
Have a picture of it though :)

When I lived in Manhattan in the 1970's, I used to include Roosevelt, Yonkers, and the Meadowlands (which had just opened) in my racegoing, along with Aqueduct and Belmont. I found that post position was such a dominant factor at the half-milers (especially Roosevelt) that I could hold my own or even come out ahead considering very little else. I haven't played the harness races in many years now, but I still have good memories of those days.

First racetrack I ever went to, one Saturday night when I was 15. I worked at the flea market they had in the RR parking lot on Sunday mornings during college to make some extra money.

I was reading the dedication site and noticed that the current Monticello Raceway announcer Howard Oil called the races unofficially. Just wondering if anyone ever saw him in action at Roosevelt. Thought it was a neat little tidbit of info.
