If you look at the win percentages of the top 10 trainers at the most recently concluded meet, you'll see a lot of good trainers who aren't even really close to 20 percent wins. Most in the top 10 are in the 15 and 16 percent range. I'll be honest, i REALLY like handicapping races where i'm not considering the trainer as much of a factor, i'm not looking at some 'legend' hitting .45 percent like you see at other places. If i see a 'legend' in a race hitting some bizarre percentage, i turn the page, i'll admit i'm not good enough to beat that trainer with my pick, so i skip the race and look for a race where most trainers are hitting between 10 and 20 pct.

Can you make the case that a track like Santa Anita has some of the most honest racing in America due to no 'supertrainers' with ridiculous percentages?

Its refreshing to just handicap horses, you can do that in So Cal these days.

SRU why didn't Jacobson win any races at SA this last meet?
Same reason he doesn't win as much at Saratoga?

Keep a close eye on him....

And the answer is? I don't know....Are you thinking there is more competition at Santa Anita and Saratoga so Jacobson doesn't do as well.

I think it might be due to where the trainer is primarily based out of.

Apparently SA doesn't allow super-trainers to be super-trainers when they are in So Cal. How they accomplish this is anyone's guess, maybe Vic knows.

You would think there is less competition since he's not battling other 45 per centers for wins. There's nothing special about the SA product from a strength standpoint, Jacobson not being the jake we know and love from NY isn't because his horses are running holes in winds in so cal and just getting beat by better animals,it's something else, maybe someone smarter than me can chime in here because I don't have the answer.

It might be the ol "yer not from 'round dees parts are ye pardner?" syndrome...

Humans are still humans you know, especially when they form tight groups...they get a little protective of their turf...

I suspect there is an informal pecking order at most tracks, acknowledged or not, and interlopers are not always the most welcome...Like when BB goes to Arkansas and goes away with the spoils...

Apparently SA doesn't allow super-trainers to be super-trainers when they are in So Cal. How they accomplish this is anyone's guess, maybe Vic knows.

1. Very strong competition.

2. Insistence on following the rules. With aggressive, proactive regulating from the Equine Medical Director, Safety Stewards, Investigators and Stewards.

3. State of the art testing procedures at U C Davis.

4. Progressive, ahead of the curve advance thinking from The Executive Director, Equine Medical Director, Chairman of the CHRB and caring board members.
