Hello, new guy here. Thanks for taking my call. I love the sport and try my best
to handicap but that’s another hundred questions. I’m 30 min away from the Great
Race place but can’t seem to find the time to get there. Anyway, my first question
is simple and this seems the right place to ask it. Its about betting pools. Are
all the sports books in Vegas, and the Horse Racing tracks connected? I mean
like the pick 6 say at Santa Anita when they put that total pool figure on TVG,
is that the total across the nation? All books and tracks or just at Santa Anita.
Same with win, place and show pools?

Thanks for taking the time to read this train wreck of a question.
Hopefully this is the right spot to scribble this!

It's a good question

Unfortunately, the answer isn't easy to come up with.
That's because race books in Nevada that are not linked
to pari-mutuel pools have nearly completely gone the way of the buffalo.
That's a good thing for most horse players, but not all.

I suppose there are still a few books left that are not agents for the track.
They book their own wagers - set their own limits on exotics.
These books are not popular with bettors looking for the big score.
For grinders, they are the best way to go.

Facilities that take wagers on horses throughout the country
outside of Nevada are, as you alluded, hooked up to the host track.
You're going to get paid, for the most part, what is being
paid at the host track. Unless, of course, you are betting
in a jurisdiction that takes a little extra off the top.
That can happen.

So?
Have I confused you enough yet? :)
99% of race books in the country are betting into the track pool.
That's about the easiest way to sum it up.

Good luck with your racing exploits.
Get to Santa Anita more often, too. ;)

Yes, they are.

(There was another poster showing above me but I cannot see what he posted. I assume it was the same answer.)

if you stick 10k to win on a horse in vegas on a santa anita race, that 10k will show up on tvg and on santa anita's tote board within 1 minute. its all connected, when tvg shows a pool or santa anita shows a pool its a pool of all the money from everywhere.

to comment on hfc's point about pari mutuel, vegas used to book bets on tracks, but this was a while ago in the 80s and maybe the 90s, now its all pari mutuel, i don't know if some places still 'book' house quinellas, but most all bets are comingled, vegas has gotten really soft over the years, they don't want to really book any bets, they're terrified of sharp gamblers, vegas ain't what it used to be.

All legal wagers get dumped into the, same pools. Only exception is offshore which is obviously illegal so not commingled
