He's not necessarily a household name, and it's been a while since I've picked up a copy of The New Yorker magazine (that I used to regularly look at just for the cartoons, which prominently featured his wry commentaries on high-society life), but William Hamilton (who signed his drawings as "Wm. Hamilton") died this past Friday at age 76 from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Lexington, Kentucky, and I didn't want to let his passing go unnoted. (He was probably in Lexington to check out the prominent folks at Keeneland for new material.) (An example of one of his cartoons is included at the link above.)

Further examples of his work can be seen here (http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=william+hamilton+cartoons&FORM=HDRSC2).

I have a New Yorker Coffee mug, with Mankoff's immortal line...

"No, Thursday's out. How about never....Is never good for you?"

Exquisite!
