OK. I read this entire thing. And I have to say, some sliver of my faith in Donald Trump as a potential President has been restored.

Yes he rambles on. Yes he non-sequiturs all over the place.

BUT. Something about this piece, when taken as a whole, has repaired some of the damage done, I think, in recent weeks. At least for me.

I actually see some method to his "madness" when reading between the lines.

Maybe he's not quite done yet.

Really, PA? You're not a stupid person. Hell, I've met you, so I can say that. ;) But, you can't possibly believe, that what this charlatan buffoon is really selling.

And that is- HIM! He is using his Reality TV experience to promote a similar character, one who will do or say anything or take any/ both positions to win. He gives out hints here- that he is: " The Lone Ranger" or that he "consulted, only his family about the decision to run." (Finally, he apparently has gone a bit further, by consulting a few on these odd, stream of conciousness positions, like the metaphorical wall or 'nukes for many' and 'renegotiating trade contracts', etc.

But, the real clue about his populist, ranting impulses came here:
“The coalition building for me will be when I win. "Lombardi came in — these are tough cookies and I’ll never forget it, I was a young man. He came in, screaming, into this place. And screaming at one of these guys who was three times bigger than him, literally. And very physical, grabbing him by the shirt. He was angry. And he grabbed — I was a young guy — he grabbed him by the shirt, screaming at him, and the guy was literally. . . . And I said, wow. And I realized the only way Vince Lombardi got away with that was because he won.”

Won through fear, through intimidation. Respect through fear, via bullying, harassing, yelling and interrupting.

THIS is a President to be?

Really, Trump would like to be Kevin Spacey, but he's not very good at all with acting, despite his significant camera time. People see through him, his shtick, his exaggerated phoniness about himself and his persona, let alone, whether he has the spine for any position that wouldn't seal the deal.

All Presidential candidates run with the idea to sell themselves. Again, you and those like you act like this is something so outrageously different....

Well, you spoke of trump so I posted the first link. Then got carried away with the rest.

In the past 15 years I have come to accept that my political opinion does not matter. I have actually worked to become politically apathetic in the sense that I recognize my own political impotence.

Of course, I still have opinions, and (of course) I still vote.

I have come to rely on these guys for knowing and accepting the results of elections in advance. In the past there have been times when I thought/hoped they were wrong but they always turn out to be right. ALWAYS! (at least in my history.)

So, IMHO - no, in THEIR opinion - Hillary is a done deal.

I will admit that, in the quiet reaches of my heart I hold some distant flicker of hope that somehow Trump's message will be heard. The words of Peter Finch echo back at me: "I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it any more."

Of course, Trump acting (at times) like he really doesn't want to get elected has me a bit confused, but at the end of the day I just shrug it off.

As you can imagine, I am not invited to very many right-wing parties. At least not more than once.

One small edit: Truthfully, I agree that Trump is a buffoon. But consider that in spite of that, many people like him. To me, that says that his BASE MESSAGE - which is about stop allowing the govt to be purchased by big money - IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY.

Unfortunately, he is probably not the guy best suited to deliver that message and/or effect change.

"I never swam to Ft. Sumter. Thomas probably knows that I made it up, but he wrote about it anyway. He understands the greater truth:

Imagination is its own form of courage."

I'm starting to think (again) he might NOT be the nominee, which of course means he's a lock to be the nominee.

Best line in the interview.

"And Nixon failed, I think to a certain extent, because of his personality. You know? It was just that personality."
