I THINK THIS INTERESTING, IF NOT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE

summery

number of bets 308
number of wins 86
number of races 135
win % 64%
MY ROI 1.01
FLAT BET ROI 0.97
MY $1 GAIN $5.22

RESULTS OF 135 RACES, 308 HORSES, RETURNED A FLAT BET ROI OF 0.97
I DO A LITTLE TWIST OF IN THE BET SIZE AND GET A 1.10 ROI

THESE RESULTS INCLUDE 24 RACES WHERE THERE WAS ONLY 1 BET IN THE RACE. ONLY 4 OF THOSE HORSES WON. I HAVE NOT ADJUSTED THE ROI'S FOR THOSE SINGLE PLAYS. THE ADJUSTMENT WOULD INCREASE THE ROI. MOST IF NOT ALL THOSE SINGLES WERE SHORT PRICED FAVORITES.

HORSES ARE SELECTED BY ANALYZING THE WIN POOL AND EXACTA POOLS AT APPROXIMATELY 4 MINUETS TO POST TIME.

THE WIN % REFLECTS ALL RACES WHERE A TICKET IS CASHED,NOT ALWAYS FOR A PROFIT.

MANY OF THE PLAYS ARE POSTED IN THE "SELECTIONS" FORUM

EXCUSE THE CAPITALS

YOU'RE EXCUSED :)

But seriously, I've always thought this made a lot of sense in some circumstances, instead of just a win-place.Obviously if the horse you like will result in a higher place payout than your second win choice, you go with the W/P.Exactas, of course are a different kettle of fish.

You can create your own 'entry'. Bet two different 10-1 shots you get 2 horses at about 5-1. You're really not betting against yourself because it's the same as your own 1 and 1A version.

this continues to do well, just handicapping the betting public and not the horses :)

About 60% of the time, I bet two horses to win. Sometimes bet divided 50-50%, sometimes 60-40%.

Sometimes the second horse is an angle play. So the second horse will usually have higher odds.

FTS with good breeding, work outs, trainer.

First on turf with good breeding,

First after claim by high % trainer.

I don't understand the difference between My ROI and Flat Bet ROI.

So for every dollar bet you got back $14.05???

How are you making your selections?

I wrote this about a year and a half ago. I said that you are better off betting two horses to win instead of making a win-place bet.

most races have 2 plays, but others could have 1, or 3 plays.

my roi is based on a formula determining bet size. As a matter of study I compare that return to the flat bet return
the $14.05 is the total dollar profit for all races.

the alternate roi is based on a lot of data. to give you an idea of how involve it is I offer the following, which over time made a lot of sense.
Reference excel cell names

bj1558 (alternate bet size) = (bj1569/bj1570)^2

bj1569= bj1559/bj1568

bj1570=1/bj1563 (1/sum of all plays)

bj1563=ae1670

ae1670=sum(ae1575:ae1669)

bj1559=ao1574 x 100000

ao1574=am1574 x ae1574

am1574=exp(2/ag1574)

ag1574= bet size (as shown in the posted plays)

ae1574=1

ac1574=bj1558

bj1558 = alternate bet size

I will eventually clarify further.

Note, cell a1 was started about 5-10 years ago

I haven't read your article yet but I do agree with your statement. For years, I have employed a win "Dutching strategy" with good success. There were times in the past where (on occasion) I would "dutch" 3 horses to win in the same race. That was an unusual situation, and I always cringed when I came across a race like that. Now, I'll skip races like these and generally have it nailed down to 1 or 2 at most! The 2nd horse (situational) is generally a long shot consideration with a lower win probability.
