Rest in Peace, I was too young to remember him as a baseball player, remember this:

In the pre-ESPN days, the NBC Game of the Week was must see TV. Gowdy, Joe G and Kubek.

And Ken Howard, the star of The White Shadow, also died today.

Joe use to appear on the Carson Show regularly, and tell lots of Yogi stories. Joe and Yogi were kids growing up together in St. Louis.

Joe used to say that to play in the majors you were usually the best high school player in your city at the time. He said that he played in the majors, and wasn't even the best catcher on his block.

I remember, as a youngster, in the 3rd grade, we would visit my Grandparents. My Grandfather, a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, would get the game on the tv, turn the sound down, turn the radio on, and listen to Harry Carey, and Joe Garagiola, call the game. It was then that I fell in love with baseball, and the Cardinals. Thank you Joe, you and Harry were the best. :(

He was a great ambassador for the game of baseball and I enjoyed listening to him on those baseball broadcasts. R.I.P Joe Garigiola.

Garagiola had a great, self-deprecating sense of humor and he was a terrific story teller. Great personality. Glad he lived a long life.

I forgot he had a really varied broadcasting career outside of just baseball. He was on the Today Show panel for several years and hosted some network daytime game shows in the 70's and 80's.
