Something strange going on with the payouts from Dubai racing today. What kind of payout methodology are they using where the 2nd & 3rd place finishers in the California Chrome race can pay $33 & $26 to show? In trying to figure out the math it appears that the total pool is simply divided into three & then the payouts are just calculated from that figure, with the other 2 finishers in the money having no bearing on the payouts of your horse. Don't know why any type of calculation would allow for this as it creates the potential for huge minus pools. Something to keep an eye on going forward if there are any races where a big favorite gets pounded in the place (our show) pool, seems like you could just bet the rest of the field to place & then count your profits with no risk. Just wish I had noticed this before the race instead of after!

Here were the figures from the Chrome race today with place pool totals:

1 $56,072 (paid $2.10)
2 $489
3 $4,129
4 $2,168
5 $551
6 $508
7 $1,059 (paid $33.20)
8 $1,348 (paid $26.20)

Pool total $66,328

Looks like by the pools and percentages the payouts are based on the FIXED PRICE. Same as South Africa, UK, Ireland. One of those must be the host for Dubai simulcasting.
