1. 1987. Photo finish between 2 Kentucky Derby winners / horses of the year
2. 1989. Culmination of the Sunday Silence-Easy Goer rivalry
3. 2009. Greatest performance by a female horse in American racing history
4. 2004. Probably the greatest individual effort in the race, Ghostzapper running a huge figure.
5. 2015. I'm not the biggest American Pharoah booster, but the TC + BC Classic is not going to be done again for a long, long, long time and that race is therefore going to be more and more appreciated over time.

Got 7-1 offshore after he beat St.Liam. 3.Black Tie Affair. He was lone speed. 4.Mucho macho man. He had no heart but was in top form. 5.Tiznow. Hit DD P3 5 of 6 in p6 and exacta when he came back to beat Sakhee.

I should have cashed on the Blame-Zenyatta exacta ($60!!!!!) a ridiculous number of times but let my head go to fandom after seeing Goldikova and Chamberlin Bridge win their races. I drove to CD to see them, so maybe that Classic comes in below all the others. I think I regret missing that more than any other bet I've made. Left free money on the table.

1987 Ferdinand
1988 Alysheba
1984 Wild Again
1989 Sunday Silence
2001 Tiznow

I still think Tom Durkins call in 1987 was the greatest race call of all time.

"And now, Alysheba begins to roll from the back of the pack."
"And Alysheba continues to pick em up on the outside with a dramatic run towards the leaders."
"Alysheba, a final surge, the two of them everybody hit the wire together, Ferdinand and Alysheba in a dramatic photo finish in the worlds richest horse race."

I have not seen the race in a while but I will never forget that race call. I did have the two boxed in the exacta.

Unbridle's victory in 1990 was a bit of a shocker to me.
As far as pure thrill, that finish was unreal. i was on 36 Red with my bets.
The people there were freaking out. To get out of there quickly we decided to leave our seats and head downstairs and watch it on a monitor. I though I had the winner and all I could hear over the screaming was "Unbridled" then "and wins it!!!"
Thrilling finish on a tough day for the horse racing world.

I wish Breeders Cup LTD would get their heads out their doopas and have other tracks host the event.
This Churchill- SO Cal thing is getting old.
Yeah, they let Keeneland have it in 2015, which was ok...But the east coast deserves the event as well.
Gulfstream and Belmont...Maybe give Monmouth another shot as well.

They lose a ton of handle if there's slop. This is why nfl wants super bowls indoors or in warm climates

Is that a fact or opinion regarding slop negatively effecting handle?

1) Any BC not in California
2) Any BC not in California
3) Any BC not in California

5) Any BC not in California

Lately have very little interest in the Breeders Cup (like the last 8 years).

I don't have any facts, I just assumed it to be true.

Ok. It doesn't matter to me either way. I was just curious. I think betting BC races is a big crap shoot either way. I cashed a nice sized ticket last yr on Wavell Ave but other than that nothing went like I thought it would. I welcome the slop as one more wrench in the equation on big race days.

How Wild Again won that I have no idea. It looked like he was doomed with 50 yards to go...And of course "The Hooded Monster" tried to body check his way to a win....

Not buying it.
For every person that either cuts back on betting when the track is off, there are tons more that do their best handicapping on wet tracks.
Don't forget, weather is not a factor with regard to handle given the fact that only 20% is bet on track. So it's not as though the weather keeps large volume players away from their.......computers

That's funny. Although I don't bet Socal anymore, I love it when they host the Breeders cup. Fast and Firm , my two favorite track conditions.

Fort Larned holding off Mucho Macho Man?

Gary Stevens winning a $5,000,000 horse race without touching the whip?

California Chrome trying to get there?

Zenyatta winning the thing in her dramatic fashion?

Curlin taking a shot with the track stacked against him?

GET A GRIP CRYBABY...

Seriously though, my two favorites are probably Invasor and Tiznow #2

For pure excitement, I think the 1987 Breeders' Cup Classic was the best (Ferdinand over Alysheba). Two Derby winners a neck apart.

That was my favorite. Loved Sunday Silence. It wasn't really a desperate neck though. More like a comfortable half length. But i guess a desperate neck sounds more dramatic.

1. Tiznow wins it for America (2001)
2. The first one with Wild Again (1984)
3. Alphabet Soup/Louis Quarteze/Cigar (1996)
4. Zenyatta flying home (2009)
5. Concern (1994)

Well, strictly from a wagering standpoint :), it has to be the following:

1. 2000 Tiznow/Giant's Causeway
2. 2013 Mucho Macho Man/Will Take Charge/Declaration of War
3. 2011 Drosselmeyer
4. 2006 Invasor
5. 2010 Blame

That's funny. Although I don't bet Socal anymore, I love it when they host the Breeders cup. Fast and Firm , my two favorite track conditions.

I just think that a championship game or a championship race should be on a real racetrack. Meaning, a true non biased, widely banked turns, less turns are better, turf should actually be something called real grass, racetrack.

Like the old woodbine, BELMONT PARK and.............silence.

Any BC not run at Belmont (or Woodbine) is a a hindrance to actually seeing a true champion crowned.

Go ahead hate me for it......It's the truth.

I'll never forget some ham and egger 30/1 donkey wiring the field at Santa Anita in 2002 with P Val up. No handicapping involved. No talent needed. Just get the lead and ride the concrete to the wire. Believe Sightseek with JD up at 1/2 couldn't make a move the entire race. Could be wrong but hopefully you get the point.

And grass races should be run on real grass that is more than 1/4 inch or 1 inch deep. It's a joke out there.

Don't know where you guys bet during the earlier BC's (mid 80's) but me and my buddy used to go to Garden State Park. This was the earlier days of simulcasting before co-mingling of pools. You could shop for odds on the horse you liked because each track that was being simulcast had their own race, for the particular BC race, and their own pool. Belmont might have your horse at 4-1 and you could get 6-1 at Suffolk. Now that was fun.

In the vein of this thread: The 2008 BCC was on the AW surface of Santa Anita and finished Raven's Pass over Henrythenavigator, both FT N.A. starters with excellent Euro records. Were those two horses primarily turf specialists in England?
