New Rule Regarding the Post-Race Testing of Claimed Horses: The New York State Gaming Commission has adopted a rule that eliminates the universal post-race testing of claimed horses. Effective Feb. 10, 2016, horsemen will have the option of requesting a post-race test, at the claimant’s expense, on the Claim Form. The cost of the post-race test will be $150, and horsemen must have the funds available on account when the request is made. Claimants will not be charged if the claimed horse is subject to mandatory testing.

Any thoughts on this ruling??

Gentlemen/ladies

unless I'm incorrectly reading this article, if I claim a
horse today, based on recently improving speed or pace
figures, and it turns out this horse was illegally medicated/juiced
AND,i don't test the horse for meds;

a: the claim stands with no recourse, unless i elect to turn the
horse over to the previous trainer who "improved" this tbred.

b: As i didn't test the horse, the previous connections
who administered illegal drugs are not fined and/or
suspended?

c: if i'm an ally of this illegal crew, claim the horse
and retire this horse, a betting coupe is never uncovered?

In effect, NY has told the public we are no longer protecting
the betting public, it is up to the claiming owners to
protect their financial interest when claiming horses.

Most importantly, NY has set the perfect stage for PETA,
since the thoroughbreds are at risk with no protection
from the racing authorities.
