Bob Elliott, the surviving half of the comedy team Bob & Ray, as well as the father of actor/comedian/writer Chris Elliott and the grandfather of actor/comedian Abby Elliott, has died of throat cancer at his home in Maine at age 92.

His partner, Ray Goulding, had passed away in 1990 at age 68.

I am quite familiar with Chris but never heard of Bob, I guess that is because this is the only place where turning 55 today doesn't make me an old man.

Bob Elliot was a very low key comedian, similar to Bob Newhart.The two of them mostly parodied broadcasting,especially local radio and TV.Bob's best known characters were Wally Ballou an inept TV news anchor and Biff Burns, an inept sportscaster.Ray Goulding was the outsized and louder(but not loud) of the two.They used to do the Dick Cavett Show back in the day on a regular basis.
