Can anyone offer the best way to get to Boston from the Philadelphia area? We are heading up to Boston at a very bad time (about 4 pm on Friday), so I anticipate massive traffic. I wanted to try to avoid taking the GWB in NY, so is there anyway around this area??

Northern NJ on a late Friday afternoon is usually a nightmare!
If you can get through that area, continue north on preferably Route 17 (or as an alternate, the Garden State Parkway) to the NY Thruway (Interstate 87 north) to the Newburgh exit. Take Interstate 84 east over the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge and I-84 eventually meets up with the Mass Pike that will take you into the Boston area.

Yes, I am hearing Newburgh or the Tapanzee bridge are viable alternatives to going through NYC

Tapan Zee can be nightmarish as well. I live in South Jersey and often make trips to Nashua NH, north of Boston. During bad traffic times I take NJ Turnpike to I-287 (Exit 10) to NY Thruway to Newburgh I-84 to Mass Turnpike. Lot more miles but alot less stress.

Suff, Southwest doesn't fly to Boston (Or at least I didn't see any flights)..
I think we are just going to drive up Fri night, stay over, go to the game at 1, get a bite to eat, then leave for home..

Southwest Boston bargain flights go to either Manchester NH or Providence RI.
