If you are going to offer wagering on the live races (to meet the simulcast requirements), I wonder why they do not do it for the whole day? Is it that much more expensive?

Not sure of their reasoning, TC. I no longer have an "in" at OBS, but they've been doing just this for the past few years. Wagering on 1 QH race and 1 TB race to comply with Florida law and keep their QH and TB licenses intact.

Would like to add them to my "visit" list, but with wagering offered on only two races it would be difficult to justify the travel expense.

I thought some time not too long ago they were thinking about running a few days, which I presume would include wagering on all the races.

Let me know if you find anything out! :)

BTW nice avatar.

I think your avatars may be long-lost brothers. Bring the cats to Ocala and have a reunion before the two wagering races of the year.

TC, the trip to Ocala might be justified some year because you could also see a couple of our more notable horse farms, most of which allow visits year-round.

As far as the avatar, I got that one off the net, but I do have three tuxedo cats of my own that are only slightly less photogenic.

My parents have been down near ocala for the last few years. This is the first year I made it down early enough to go watch. Guess I'm lucky to have a reason to be down here. One idea to make it worth the trip is if you fly down and stay in Tampa it's only 2 hours from there.

Funny enough I also have a tuxedo cat. :D

Maybe I'll see you in the crowd, Salty. I'm wearing a greenish t-shirt, black shorts, and a Saratoga ball cap. I'll be by the "beer tub," wherever that is.

What's the best horse you've seen run in one of these, Mike, if there are any worth remembering? I seem to recall a potential Derby candidate from not too long ago with one of these in its lines, but I thought it was a 2-day thing in March, so I could be completely off base.

I think they ran it in March a few years ago.

Sorry Mike I didn't see your post until near the end of the 4th but I tried to find you.

My favorite runner of the day was WhatAWonderfulWorld. I'm an idiot and didn't wheel my exacta in the second. I had 9/1,6,7,11,13. Lots of dumb money in the pool made Pletcher horse 3-5 I believe in a 13 horse race. Lol show payoffs weren't spectacular 20% takeout on all wagers.

Double paid less than the win price of the second race winner.

The attendance was pretty good and the food was fairly priced compared to most tracks.

1/4 lb hotdog with chips and 20 Oz soda for $5
Burger with c and s $8
Sausage and peppers with c and s $7

The tellers must be in the hospital after all the same stupid questions they had to answer. I think obs could have gotten some booths (ownership info, local farms, general racing info, maybe some merchandise) There was an extreme lack of stuff to do between races. Only thing to do was to watch the horses in the nice big paddock that actually had two sets of bleachers. Once the two betting races passed half the crowd left.

It was an overall nice experience but I think I may only do this again every other year or something like that.

they did a total of $23,000 handle, i've had days with more action over at Eddie Woods Classic Mile without windows.

rasta, there was a decent 3-yo that came down here a few years back, but I can't remember the name. Yes, they used to sometimes hold the races in March, but I can't say that I recall any 2-day deals.

Salty, I was one of the ones that left after the 2nd race, but it sounds like you found the "beer tub" with that food. I wound up with an $8 BBQ pork sandwich. I noticed that about the DD payoff being less than the win price on the 2nd race winner.

lamboguy, when I first moved down here in 1995, Classic Mile was supposed to be developed into a race track with a QH or TB meeting, but it never panned out. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you to find out there's wagering going on out there. LOL.

LOL.i used to bring all my horses over there because its a mile track and our training center is only 5/8ths. because its hard to get good exercise riders now and the 2 year olds are starting later and later these days we only go 3/8ths breezes.

this year Aqueduct will start having 2 year old on April 20th and 21st we are going to send those horses over to Classic Mile to work so that they can be within 1 work of running when they make it up to New York.

those races 100% to go in Aqueduct this year, the first 6 maiden races will have purses of $100,000 each.
