The wily old veteran is making some early noise at the Oaklawn Winter Meet. In the first 2 days of the meet he has entered 4 horses and pulled out 2 wins, a second, and a respectable 4th.

And he isn't getting it done with 9/5 favorites. He is rolling home price horses including Giant Trick yesterday that paid $18.40 and Dakota Fred that lit up the tote board for a $69.60 winner on Friday. In short, simple $2 WP wagers on Van Berg entries the last 2 days at Oaklawn would have returned you $136.60.

Jack has 3 starters set to enter the gate at Oaklawn today. Evansville Sue in the 1st at a ML of 20/1. Obsidian Splendor in the 9th at a ML of 30/1, and Tosha Talifero in the 8th and featured $100K Pippin Stakes at a ML of 20/1.

Can the Hall of Fame trainer keep this hot streak rolling?

Van Berg tried to go all the way at 40-1 but tired inside the 1/16th pole.

Glad to see he's doing well - I worked for him as a hot walker back in my younger days at Ak-Sar-Ben.

Fantastic!

My first experiences of horse racing were at the Old Lady we called Ak-Sar-Ben. (May she rest in peace. :()

He did it again, won today's (Thursday) 8th race at Oaklawn with a nice 5/1 shot.
A good man that deserves all the winners he can get.:):)
